Backyard Paintjob!!! K8
Ok, so I made a thread not too long ago about some paint codes when I was trying to decide what color to paint my car. I was thinking about a K3 or similar light silver, but I have done that before...Wanted something new! So anyways, a bit of time in the back yard and about 250 bucks worth of K8 tornado silver spray cans and the RX-7 had transformed from an ugly purple piece....
(shown below as I bought it last fall)
To as it sits now!!!!
Comments please!!!!
I think it was well worth the money!

For what I paid for that car and what the paint cost its still nothing...The rims and tires are worth more than the car and the paint, lol.
I really think it couldnt have worked out better for the price.
Now I just need to tint out the windows, and perhaps add the whaletail and she'll be done....? lol
Did anyone catch my oldschool side marker trick, a couple carriage bolts allows you to mount them on the inside when the trim is gone.
I always thought that look was slick!

I do like the side markers. I was going to ask you about that. When I get my car painted this summer (again) I would like to do that.
Carriage Bolts? Never heard of those. What are they and where would I obtain them.

holy **** that looks good for rattle can. due to my mom backing into my DD GSL i plan on painting it over the summer with some "back yard" method. i dont care too much about this chasis, the SA is my baby
for $250 though you could have done the roll on paint job. that way the paint is extremely tough and looks good. thats probably the route ill go.

correction trochoid: a stovebolt is mostly known as a machine screw. you'll probably only see it in larger sizes 5/16 3/8 labeled as a stovebolt, with a nut. A carriage bolt is just a carriage bolt, never heard it as anything else.

I want those tires SOOOOOOOOO bad, but they dont make them for 14 inch wheels. I aint coming off my LE rims neither!
They look like competition drag radials in the picture, like the set of Nitto 555rs I use to have.
Maybe I will get a set of those for my turbo FB, the tires look like they are just ready to eat some asphalt!

Satin is Good
Personally, I like the look of the satin finish on a car with such smooth lines, and for my money I certainly would not clutter it up with any spoiler.
I do all my paint jobs outdoors. I bought my GSL about 8-9 years ago, and it was black. I painted it with some lacquer I had in my paint cabinet, and clear coated it with lacquer. Using a slow drying thinner for the clear, it flowed out smooth and then dried with this satin finish. I never did buff it out. Still looks good, and I would not do it differently.
Notice I painted the Limited Edition wheels to match. They are clear coated with a glossy urethane because that is easier to clean.

Any runs in the clear? I saged mine a bit and have to scrape them.

That car looks good, I almost did not notice the trim was gone.
the question is, how long will it last? and how do you wax it?
