Back Seat in an FB
Back Seat in an FB
Alright, i just looked at an FB with a back seat in it. From the research i have found the back seat was not offered in an FB in america due to safety regulations. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is true or not. If its not, does anyone have production numbers on what vehicles have the back seat or anything like that. I want to know how rare the backseat is, because i am intereted in getting this car, it is a GSL-SE but it is in pretty bad condition. Im wondering what i should use as a price to offer for the car. I figured i would look to the wisdom of other forum members first. Does anyone else on the forum have an FB with a backseat. I have really never seen one with a backseat, so that is why i am kinda confused about it. Please leave posts and let me know what you guys think, thanks a bunch.

some had a 'backseat', more like a bucket you can fit half a kid in. Or a nice place for your helmet.
If you are asking does it increase value, no. Are they rare. yes-ish
do a quick search there was a recentish thread by somone on their backseat

I doubt that's true there is no 2+2 U.S. option in the FB. Those are all from overseas vehicles. The underwriter won't see that in the selction option for quoting a price. Cars are rated by a number of factors not just top speed etc.
It's just for looks. It would be worse than waterboarding to force someone to sit back there.

Those back seats are perfectly safe as long as the occupants are missing their legs. If you can talk the guy down and if the car is in bad shape salvage what you can. Some people just might pay a good price if the seats are in good shape.

I kinda want to buy the car and swap out the mechanics into my car. its a GSL-SE so its got the FI engine and the LSD and 4 wheel disks, but when i saw the back seat i was like "WHAT??" If i can get a good price i'll pick it up and swap stuff out. Maybe i'll be stepping up to the 13 from my 12. :-), that would make my cold morning starts a little nicer!!!
Ohh and another point. Since there is some popularity on this thread, if you have a stateside rex with the back seat, let me know. Post pics if you can. It seems like people are interested. Also if you have a custom rear seat, show us some pics, who knows you might impress someone and they might want to know how you did it. Just a thought! Thanks for all the replies.

it does make a difference. Maybe not for a 1985 1.3L car.
But why do you think companies like aston martin put a seat in the back that is unable to hole a baby seat?
It CAN lowe insurance by up to 30% depending on other factors as well
(my brother is in automotice insurance and risk assessment so im not just pulling this out of my ***)

So that $3 went somewhere.
Ohh djessence, did you say your car had the back seat? I can understand the canadian ones having it, but i thought they weren't allowed because of the safety standards put up in the gold old US, just like our super high emissions stuff. The reason we never got the 12AT. although now that i think about it i don't think canada got the 12AT either. Just a thought...
Ohh i love how this is an insurance thread now! lol... just playin, thread whatever you guys want. very interesting to me!

We got pretty much the same cars as the US. AFAIK the only difference was we got the headlight washers, and from what I've read most, including mine, no longer work. You can kind of make them out on the bumper as black dots in my sig picture. We did not get the 12AT, otherwise we would all be scrambling to find one.

There was no way the back seats were unsafe or illegal to have. That's where my parents stuck me and my brother for several years until we couldn't fit... I really doubt my parents would have stuck us there if they had any doubt in their mind. And yeah, the seat was something that they had to order separately from the dealer and have installed.
However, interestingly enough, when I slammed my 7 back in october, the back seat folded down... but that may have just been my fault for not locking it the last time i put it up or something...

I'd love to know if anyone else has a rear seat in their SA like mine. I've searched everywhere but can't find another like it which makes me think it was a custom job for my car. Anyone have any input, aside from it needing to be cleaned.
