Back from Germany... Any 1st Gen's out there?
I just got back from a couple of weeks in Germany/Austria/Switzerland/Italy and saw the full spectrum of Porsche models (even went to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgard), and BMW and Mercedes. Even came across a Ferrari Mondial, F355, and a silver Lamborghini Murcielago. As any true afficianado would do, I was constantly on the prowl for any RX-7's out there.
Finally, on one of our driving trips on the autobahn, passing through a small town just outside Wurzburg (Bavaria), I saw a red, 2nd Gen, convertible - overall stock, as far as I could tell. He was stopped at a side street to enter traffic and I only had a second to look.
My question is; any 1st Gen owners in Germany? Any pictures of your rides?
For those curious, the autobahn isn't as lawless and awesome as you'd expect - it was actually pretty tame in about 95% of the areas that we drove through, and the only exception was between Reutte and Zuffenhausen (Stuttgard), where the roads are long and straight and Mercedes and BMW's really can get up to speed. That was the only time that I knew some serious speed was being gathered by the larger sedans. We were cruising at about 90mph and were getting passed like we were standing still (likely getting passed at about 140-150mph in the extreme cases). TIA,

Well, i'm not in Germany, but I live close to the border at the 'Ruhrgebiet'.
You must have been in Germany at a quiet day.... Enough Rx-7's to see in Germany. As for the speeds, well, cruising is indeed about 140-150 Kmph (90MpH?) normal in Germany, most people are used to that speeds.
And indeed, there are people driving must faster than that, but the point is, when you drive in Germany above the 'advised' speed (130Kmph) you're willingly taking a risk, so if you end up in a crash you're NOT covered by the insurance..... that's why not everybody is driving like insane. Also if you would drive too crazy fast the police will come by you in their M5 and will make a jesture to slow down a bit.....
Also if there are speedlimits, there are really heavie fines to pay if you get caught.... that's why the germans will drive according to the speed, if their is a limit
There are always exceptions offcourse.....
Sorry to hear you didn't visit the Netherlands... you would have been very welcome
