axle part way out but now I'm stuck
Went to start replacing my rear wheel bearings on my 85 gsl. The only thing left to disconect at this point is the break line. I looked through the FSM and did some searches but I am not sure I have the right answer. How do you get this line off safely. I know it should be simple and I have an idea... but I want to make sure....

ok so I found that there is a clip that holds the line to the bracket on the back plate which I removed. Now the line is not attached to the bracket however it still runs through the hole in it. That line is frozen on the caliper and the hard line is frozen at the flair... so could I just cut a groove in that bracket to slip the hard line through or is that a bad idea for some reason?

Loosen the tension at the hand brake inside the car.
Loosen the nut at brake caliper
Remove cable from caliper
Oh wait, you're disconnecting the caliper from the brake line....

When working with brake lines, a quality line/flare wrench is a must. Otherwise you will strip the flare nuts on the brake lines. Shoot the flare nut with some P B Blaster, let is set overnight if you have the time, If it still won't break loose, heat the nut with a handheld propane torch.
As far as the e-brake cable, you may need to loosen the adjusting nut under the e-brake handle cover to give yourself enough slack to remove the cable from the L bracket on the caliper.

if it doesn't come off easily, just cut it and replace the line. Much faster/easier to make a new line than to screw around trying to remove the old one.
Oh - GSL. You don't have to remove the line, just remove the clip, pull the flex hose out a bit, then notch the tab so you can slide the line out without removing it.
Never heat a tube nut that threads into a flex hose. It will destroy the flex hose, usually explosively. Fun if you're expecting it.

Thanks Trochoid I tried the correct wrench for a flare nut (wraps around) but this sucker was FROZEN looked like it was welded on!!!! Needed to bring it to work with me today...
Sooo took < 4 mins to hack saw a slot so I could slide the hard line out. I didnt have the need to take off the caliper or disconect any lines by cutting the slot. Just needed to pull the axle to get the bearing replaced (hopefully today).

Just an update... I had the bearing pressed on. Parts and pressing cost me about 85$ (which is prolly on the steep side). Reinstalling was a snap. She used to sound a bit like a train chuging along, now there is no noise at all coming from the rear. Pain is now I hear the back hatch rattling...
