Itll fit,but your backing plates, brakes and wheel wont bolt up......so that kinda kills that idea.

The GSL-SE axles will work in an 84-85 GSL rearend, but you still have to use the SE rotor/caliper and wheel.

Other way around, longer, not thicker. The SE diffs will interchange in with the S, GS and GSL diffs. The SE housing is slightly wider, hub to hub, than the 12A housings are.

So if I understand you correctly, The SE diffrential will fit into the "12A" rearend but the SE axles are to long? or just the gearset? When your talking hub to hub your talking where the axles fit into the diff right? What about the axle splines, Aren't they different?

The gearsets themselves interchange, on the S3s only. Yes, the SE axle housing is wider than the non-SE housing. Keep in mind that all S3 rearends have the larger diameter axles, same spline count.

Does anyone know the diameter on the large axle or the small axle? I'm trying to find the easiest way to figure out if my '83 (the mutt year) has a large or small axle. Thanks.
