Awesome Rx3 Ride.....Never Forget it

Yeah... it's another one of those awesome rotary stories...

Anyway, some time ago I found out one of my karate friend had an awesome rx3 that he spent apparently over $30,000 on. We started chatting to discover we both loved Rotaries and I told him about my 7 and we just hit it off from there.

He kept on saying he will take me for a cruise one day but most of the time we were both too busy so we didn't get round to it until I messaged him last friday and asked about that cruise....

I heard the rx3 from about 3km away....I was waiting out the front of my house, and when the car pulled up I instantly had a smile on my face. This was one of the most impressive rotor I've seen...and this is just on the outside I thought!

I got in and we soon started driving through traffic..... heads turned everywhere.... and when we finally opened it up..... I was pushed back into my seat so hard it was awesome..... the noise and the power of the car was fantastic... we both grinned and blasted past a few v8 idiots who wanted a run.... they soon gave up.

BTW.... Seb's (my mate) Rx3 has a series 5 intercooled turbo, 17" simmons wheels, momo wheel and gearknob, microtec ECU and blitz turbo timer...and I'm pretty sure thats it. Oh and a button clutch.

The exhaust is a stainless steel 3" mandrel bent (I think) Not too sure on the exhaust system as I didn't ask him about that.

The cruise was for about 2hours, and we had runs against a few 200sx's, a r33 and r34 skyline, SS commodore VT and VY and a WRX. None came close to the Rx3 once the power and traction were done.

The Rx has 160 odd KW's at wheels and only weighs 900kg. 1/4 run is low 11's though Seb hasn't taken it out recently so he may run it faster now he is more use to the car as he did the 1/4 mile when he first got the car.

I've attached some pics of his Rx3 for all to see. I just can't wait to get my 7 how I want it so we can go and blast away some v8's and anything else together! he he he!

Sorry for the **** host

Cool story. I've wanted a ride in a pre 7 Rx for awhile now. Just one question, should the power be alot higher for a Series 5 motor? 200ish Hp seems a bit low for what he's got and running 11's to boot. I mean if I really thought that that last 70kg would drop me from probable 15's to 11's, I'd be out there with an air grinder right now.

Oh and sadly the pictures don't seem to be working right now, too bad I really want to see it.

Ohhhhhh man.

I have wanted a pre-RX-7 rotary for a while now. The closest I've seen is an old Mazda 1200, which doubled as the R100, back in the day.

Well, 160kw seems about right to me for a series 5 turbo...at wheels anyway..... and.... if you consider the car only weighs 900kg..... I'll talk to him tonight when I see him for more info... but I'm %99 that is correct.

He bought the 73 rx3 from an old guy north of Adelaide.... then over about a year he worked it to what you see now. The paint job alone cost $8000 AUD.

He has it on low usage insurance coz he only takes it out on weekends and if the weather is fine.... maybe like twice a month for a good long drive.

As for all the rotary cars...well in Oz we def do have them all.... though the most common you would see are 7's.... and rx3's here are getting considered to be more rarer and a collectors item every passing day...

I would've thought in Canada and US r100s, rx2,rx3,rx4, rx5 and 7 where all produced/imported..... if not, that sucks!!!

Next time we go for a drive I'll record some of it with my video cam and maybe if it's cut and made into a reasonable size I'll post it here for you guys.

Man I want to get an Rx-3 sedan.

Genuine Rx-3's are definately starting to get pretty rare and many "Rx-3's" are actually converted Mazda 808's.

This is my buddy's Rx-3 coupe at the drags on the weekend. 13Bpp, Micro-tech injection, cold air intake, 9inch, etc.

I just remembered that my local engine builder has an Rx-3 in his back yard. I should go try to take it off his hands. Mmmmm.
