Awd
I would mount the engine transversley. there are a number of Transaxles i could use. I am going to start my research. Any input is encouraged. Will take alot of
planning and research to make it work. Sinse i have spare parts cars i can experiment alot with this. rx7doctor

I would suggest a subaru awd system and mod it to work with the rotory because its one of the only full time awd with 50/50 to 35/65 were the majority goes to the rear wheels. gen 1 DSM's ( talon, eclipse, lazar 90 -94) might work they are fairly strong good for up and over 400HP. Many of the awd are the oposite like the EVO. Your also look for somthing thast made to run full time 4 wheel not like many 4wds used different gear ratios from frount to back so your only supposed to use them an loose surfaces.

Don't know that it would be possible but the drivetrain from a Subaru RX coupe would be interesting. A) it would let you mount longitudinally B) it has a high and low range C) the car is of similar dimensions reducing fab work and D) it has locking differentials.

my buddy was just telling me yesterday, how he wanted to get a BMW E30 body, and swap over a skyline GTR engine and drivetrain. he made great points, can easily get a front clip from JARCO for $5500, and get the rest for prolly a total of $8000. then with custom fabrication, he could have that thing running for less than a new SRT-4. but yeah, an AWD first gen.....unstoppable.

It would be tight to see but the main reason I love the FB is low weight. AWD is usually heavier and will most likely add weight, but it probably wouldn't be enough to stop it from being a bad *** light car. Good luck.

Bimmer *****
we had the 323 GTX here... not sure if the 323 GT was also available AWD... i'd think the rear axle wouldn't need to be messed with in an AWD FB, its got a good rear diff if u have the limited slip model... the biggest concern wouldbe the front axle, and i'd imagine with this upgrade you would also basically need an all new front suspension.

323 GTX was AWD the GT's were front. Someone mentioned using a Subaru tranny because htey have a rwd bias, thats only true on the STi's. otherwise they are 50/50. Subaru tranny would move the engine forward of the axle tho. I think there's already an adapter for Audi Quattro trannies for the rotary.

Hey I found one that might work its the awd for the Ford areostar it uses a turque clutch system so when the rear wheels spin the clutch grabs and locks the frounts in it farly tough and can be found in the junk yark for a few hundred complete.
