Automatic Transmission
Automatic Transmission
I fixed my engine problems for the most part. No more stalling at all.
The transmission though is sliping in drive quite badly. It will also shudder before gripping. If I shift through the gears though, it grips fine.
I know the fluid is contaminated. The transmission shop told me I should just rebuild it, and quoted me $800-$1200. I can get a known good transmission for $200 and just swap that in myself.
Any ideas off the top of your head? Or any tips on swapping the transmission?

If you change to a manual, you have to change the front counterweight as well as the rear to keep the engine balance. I'm pretty sure I remember this correctly. Somone please correct me if I'm wrong.
i have a good 84/85 automatic for sale. not sure what shipping would cost out of california but it should be considerably less than shipping an engine and that has run just 200 or less to texas
The plan at a later date is to swap over the s4 13b manual drivetrain into the car, but the engine needs to be rebuilt. When that is done I will convert the car over and get the new drivetrain put in.
For the mean time, I am just going to throw a replacement tranny in the car and get her running. I am getting an auto right now for 260 shipped to Bryan, TX that is known good with the overdrive unit.
