Automatic to Manual Conversion

I am going to be converting an 85 rx7 to manual for my girlfriend here shortly. Was trying to find a write up on the conversion if there is one at all. Does anyone know of a decent write up on the whole conversion process? Thank you

I did this swap on an 85 GS back in the day. The hardest part is getting the pedal box out and switched over, only because ere is very little room under the dash for such a big cumbersome object to be maneuvered out. Make sure you grab the wiring harness for the transmission off of the donor car. It is easy to forget. Also make sure you grab the clutch hard line that bolts on the firewall.

One other thing you need to watch out for is that the pedal boxes on 81-83 cars is ever so slightly different than the 84-84 cars. I found this out the hard way. You can,t swap it straight over as a unit. the bolt holes wont line up when you try to tighten it down. However, if you have an 81-83 donor car you can take off the individual pedals and swap them over to your 85 auto bracket. Then reinstall the 85 auto pedal box with the 83 manual pedals on it. It works great if you do it properly. That's how I ended up doing mine and it worked nicely.
