I have a 84 Auto tranny sitting outside my house if anyone wants it. I will even give you a pressure plate and torque converter. . . . . . .

A 6 pack would be great payment for it. . . . .

I could be wrong here, but I believe the JATCO auto trannies are the same ones that were put into the 70's & 80's Nissan Z cars. Anyone else heard that before?

My auto just died today... or the linkage is severely messed up, but with all that shielding in the way it's hard to get a good look at the linkage to check it out.

Park is under a load but locked into park... definately under load as RMP drops to where it would be stopped, in low gear.

Reverse is under a load but neither moves the car back nor forth. Seems like park-lock is still engaged and the torque converter is working against it.

Neutral has become 1st gear. If you start off in neutral it will take me up to 80kmh and 7000 rpm but not kick into second...... if you back off the gas momentarily it goes into true neutral and I can RPM up and down as it should.... slow down a little and give it gas, it kicks back into first.

1, 2 & D and O/D all act normally and shift up and down.

Tranny fluid checked and topped off... same crap.

My gut feeling tells me it's not linkage.

Looks like time for a swap to a 5spd..... is my checklist missing anything?

Brake pedal
Clutch pedal
slave/master cylinders
tranny and driveshaft for a manual
flywheel and counterweight
clutch disk and throw bearing

Your engine will have the counterweight, if you purchase a lightweight flywheel, you can bolt it on, if you get a stock 5spd flywheel, the counterweight is built in and you will have to mess with the big nut.

You will also need the hardline and soft line (best to use the SS line) for between the master/slave cylinders.

You will need a 5spd crossmember as the mounts were different, you will also need to make a bracket to mount the tranny as the 85-85 autos (w/ O/D) were 4" longer. Its no big deal, just 2 4" strips of steel 1/4" thick.

You will need a pilot bearing for the e-shaft as well.

A release/shift fork

The clutch pedal must have the plunger

Shifter...boot...misc. hardware and interior pieces

Starter is different

If you want the reverse lights to work as they should, you need a 5spd wiring harness for the tranny portion. I just rigged it up to a switch.

You need a pressure plate as well.

If you need any clarification or help, pm me.

I'm sending it into the dealership tomorrow *ashamed face smiley* as I'm simply too busy with work and my condominium bylaws wont allow me to swap transmissions in my parking stall.

I'll have them check/adjust the linkage, and if it's all that it was, I'm back on the road.

Failing that, well it looks like I have a winter ahead of me to do everything I did want to do to the car, like a ported 13b turbo/5-spd.

Thanks for the advice.
