Arrow auto motor into my manual car

Got an 82 gsl with the factory five speed.
Did some searching but only could fine stuff on 3rd gens.
Blew my engine and bought another from a friend but it has the auto flex plate on it.
Can I just take off the flex plate and put the flywheel off my manual engine on it? Do I need to remove the counter weight?

As far as I know you will need to match the counterweight to the flywheel if you are installing it in place of the flex plate.

So is there a counter weight on the manual one? If so I guess just take that one off and put it on my new engine?

Counterweights must be of the same series your engine is,S3-S3 cw, S4-S4 counterweight, etc.

Auto counterweights need to be removed if running a manual transmission with a stock flywheel.(the counterweight is built into the stock manual flywheel .

Exception to that rule is if you are going to use an aftermarket lightweight flywheel ,the counter weight from the automatic from the series of engine you are using must be bolted to the lightweight flywheel. And i am pretty sure the lightweight flywheel must be for that series. ie 86-92 93-95 71-85.

So if your friends motor is a 12A like yours, i assume they are then. REMOVE the auto counterweight and install your 12A manual flywheel and you are good to go.

Motors out of auto cars are like gold! They tend to be used very lightly, so you'll get a good bunch of use out of it. Man in Black put one in his car, and it was easily the strongest 12a that I've experienced and it had something like 80,000 miles on it at the time.

One thing i forgot to add. You need to get the roller bearing bushing ordered now so when you do the swap you will have it. Auto's do not have the roller bearing installed in the rear of the ecentric shaft.

Is that kind of like a pilot bushing?

you will want to install a new pilot bearing and seal. find out EXACTLY what year th enew engine is from. you need to install the matching flywheel or you WILL DESTROY your engine. do not install a flywheel from a different matching series. the series list is as follows:

79-82
83-85
