won't start

OKay i haven't gone to look at the car yet but this guy is selling an 1983 Rx-7 i don't know what model, but the ad says;

1983 MAZDA RX-7, new radiator, clutch, transmission, body, interior, tires, brakes. Good engine, won't start. $250.

So what do you think is wrong with it that it won't start? and i don't know if it has a 12A in it or a 13b? i don't think that early of year rx-7 has a 13b so i believe it's a 12A. but what could be wrong with it? and if i bought it what things could i try to get it started?
help me out thanks!

Well, the 13B only came in the GSL-SE which was only made in 84 & 85. The car seems to have lots of new parts which to me says that it ran good at one time and deserved new parts put on it. If this is true, ask questions about why it doesnt run anymore. What happened to make it stop running, you know, did it just not start one morning, or did it die going down the road. Knowing little things like this will greatly help you determine whats wrong with the car in the long run. Plus you wanna know things like if the engine still turns and so on. If the new parts were put on whiole it didnt run why would they do something like that? Were they planning on a new engine? Speaking of new engines, if you buy the car for $250 and it turns out it needs a new engine, you still have lots of money left over! Good Luck

~T.J.

PS - Where did you see the ad? I'm in WA also, and I've been looking for possible publications that might have RX-7's in them.

Lets analyze this..... $250 hmmmmm. I would be willing to bet that the motor is trashed. How does he know its bad, only way to tell is with a compression gauge. Where in Washington, I am around the Tacoma area, if your not too far maybe we can take a look. I rebuilt the engine in my 81 (got my car for 283.00, with bad engine) Maybe its not but I would say 92% that the motor is gone; however and ATF trick might do it........

it could be about 1 or more of a hundred things. From a blown fuse to a bad motor. You never know until you check it.

Just my $.02

grrrrrrrrrrrr....why can't there be ads, in my local area with RX-7 like that!!!

I'm currently looking for a '85 GSL-SE in good condition. (doesn't even need to run as long as the body is good) I want to get it up and running before my wedding date. I think it would look awsome pulling away from the church with a stylish spots car.

Get the story on it but get it quick. $250 is a nice price tag if the body and stuff is in good condition. If anything, dick with it a couple of months, decide it's hopeless, then part it out....

Sounds too good to be true... That person could part with everything except the engine and get more money for it if he isn't lying...

well i saw the ad online in the little nickel. I am in bremerton, and the guy selling it is in port orchard which is about 15-20 mintues away from where i live. So i just need to ask question like did it start and run/drive before? And did it just not start one day? or did it jsut die on the road? And i need to find out if if the new parts were put on before or after the car didn't start. okay i am planning on calling the guy today and i will let you guys know.

I have a compression gauge if you want to borrow. Send me a PM and I will give you my number. I live on the border of Gig Harbor and Purdy so I'm not far from you.
