Lightbulb ATTN ANYONE. NEED HELP W/SPONSORSHIPS on widebody FA

hey everyone, i need help on getting information on sponsorships for a 1st generation widebody rx-7. i really dont know where to start/look so if anyone can point me in a good direction thatd be awesome. im 18, and i might be comming up on a stock 1st gen. it doesnt run, doesnt have a front bumper, but it does have a widebody. i really want to restore this thing or get it to look good enough to win at shows. i personally havent seen any widebody 1st gens in person, so this seems like a cool thing to do. please, any help would be great. my e-mail is tkit213@hotmail.com. thx guys. l8.

a) rack up a record of recognised race victories
b) take said records to the publicity departments of companies that market products to the sorts of people who attend your races. Everything from razor blades to sugar drinks.
c) be prepared for a whole lot of "no"s before the "yeah, we can do that"s start to happen

You may want to start with the small mom and pop shops in your neighbourhood first.

I am thinking he means sponsorship to build a show car. That is how I read it anyways. This is my take on that.

You must first have a product that the company sees potential in. For example: NOPI puts major money in show cars and racing series. Why - Because they want to sell parts to the people who visit the shows and races. A first gen is not going to get you a sponsorship. I love the car, have owned many and currently own 2 of them - but. The aftermarket is not there for the large retailers to care about.

You must choose a platform to build upon that a retailer will jump all over. Rx8, 350Z, just about any Honda - That sort of thing. I would also imagine that type of sponsorship will be close to motorsport sponsorship - Here is the bad news for you if that is the case. You will need the money, time and initiative to build the car on your own. Then someone may be inclined to give you money to show off there name. No one will hand you over money to build a car. How do they know you will build it? how do they know you can build it?

Ok, here are your options.

1. Either get involved with a local shop, and have them help you with a shop car. Companies are more likely to cut shops deals on things because the shop is more likely to turn around and sell their product. This way they get more return with less risk than simply sponsoring a single individual.

2. Max out your credit cards, start winning shows, then put together a sponsorship packet and send it to about 100 companies. This is how the majority of show cars get it done.

3. Put together a sponsorship packet right now, and send it out. It had better be damn good too, with you being an 18 year old with little to no experience.

Stay away from those on-line places. Getsponsored.com and carsponsorship.net or what ever they are. They're scams. You pay $80 for some stickers or $25,000 in discounts that you could get anywhere else.

The cardinal rule of thumb is that the only people that want to tell you about how to go about it are the people not to listen to...

Bear that in mind during your travels.

I'd like Chime in that getting a Sponsor is like getting a loan for a buisiness. You have to present a detailed plan to a potential sponsor and show them that you can offer them a service in exchange for their services. Never mention what you "Want" until they ask.

Its like getting a job, only harder.

I've had minor successes. I have one buisiness sponsoring me, but its a little different.

My friend is sponsored, he only had to spend around 30,000 in the last 6 years there before he got it.
