Asking for your opinion

Hey all, I have a couple of questions and would apprciate the feedback.

1. How important is a pre-silencer? I have purchased a used R/B header and will be adding a R/B Power Pulse mufller with a heavy gauge straight pipe in between. I'm looking to add power, but I don't want to be "THAT GUY". My car is a DD and right now (stock) it's loud enough.

2. Rat's Nest, I read the article in the FAQ about Rat's Nest removal. My question is, "how critical is removing the air pump and adding the yaahoo belt"? What are the downsides to keeping the air pump attached (but disabled).

3. Does anyone have any input about KYB shocks/struts? Seems like you can find them on ebay for pretty cheap. Not looking to get racecar handling, just want to tighten things up a bit. Over the summer I'm planning on re-bushing the front and rear.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and add your input.

FYI, My car is a stock '83 GS w/70k mi. I'm not looking to become a street racer, I just like my cars like my women....tight & quick!

I believe you will find the pre-silencer is needed to quieten the car down. The RB muffler is a nice heavy piece but the pre-silencer makes a huge difference.

You can get alt double pulleys cheap. Better to remove the air pump and add a double pulley on the alternator.

KYBs will suffice for a stock spring car.

the only downside to removing the airpump is when you're hard on the accelerator, then let off, your car will fart & pop a bit. The upside is you save weight - but the 2nd belt cuts down on belt slippage and gives you a redundant backup in case of failure.

Yoohoo belt isn't necessary with a removed air pump IMO, unless you want it for redundancy.

A presilencer, however, definitely is necessary for an NA car.

I disagree that a presilencer is necessary. I'm running an RB collected header into a homemade cat delete pipe, with stock connecting pipe back to an RB Muffler. I did this because I was looking for a louder exhaust than the typical RB unit. I'm kinda disappointed, its really quiet. With the pre-silencer I can't imagine its louder than stock.

Also, I do not run an airpump nor do I have a double pulley/yoohoo belt. I've never had my belt slip. I do wish I had a double pulley though, I broke a belt a few months back and it had me stranded for a little while. If I had a double pulley I would have been able to make it.

Don't want to be That Guy right? Make your exhaust stock. Do the bushings and install a killer stereo.
Then just keep it running and driving in top condition.
