Is Anyone Running KIA 4.77's??

Hey everybody happy new year,
Little update, the streetported 12A is in and running like a champ. The 6 puck (sprung) clutch and HD pp are also holding up like champs, Broken in properly and all!!! So, now that thats in, I'm looking for a little faster acceleration....and have been toying with the idea for months now of dropping in the KIA 4.77 rear end..

I want to know if anyone is running this in a DD?? Not somebody you heard of, or someone else you saw. I want to hear of personal experience. How many rpms were you cranking on the highway? How was acceleration? How was the install?

I know it's going to be a little high for the highway, and friends have given me enough grief for it already, so if you want to flame...go play somewhere else.

As always any input would be greatly appreciated! thanks...

zach

I'm also curious. if it helps any, I saw in one of the threads about the Kia diff that it will take the revs up about 1k on the highway.

Wacky! I dont know how I missed your post last night...but awesome! about how many rpms is the 4.77 putting out at like 80 MPH on the freeway? A governor eh? ha that might be to my driving records benefit...

You can figure out the RPM by looking at what you have and comparing it to the new ratio. It would be like this:

RPM(new)=RPM(old)xRatio(new)/Ratio(old)

So for instance, if you were running 3000rpm (at 60MPH) with a stock rear (3.909), you would get this:

for 4.44 gears: 3000*4.44/3.909 = 3408 RPM
for 4.77 gears: 3660 RPM

At 80MPH (assuming about 4000RPM), you would be at 4880RPM (4.77) or 4540RPM (4.44).
