Anyone have 15" FC Convertible Wheels on their 1st Gen?
Hey guys/gals,
I really like the look of the BBS mesh style wheels used on the FC Convertibles and I'd love to be able to install them on my GSL-SE. I know one person on here has these wheels on their FB, but I don't know their username. It's the brownish RX7, that had a video of it running on the dyno (beautiful car by the way). I'm hoping he'll be able to help out in this post.
Anyway, I see two different ways of going about doing this. The first, is redrilling the wheels themselves to the 4x4.5" bolt circle. This may be possible if there is enough material in between the existing holes already drilled into the wheel.
The second option is to convert the FB to the 5x114.3" bolt circle that the wheels use. Now I haven't been around FB RX7s for too long, so I don't know if parts from an FC could be used, but am hoping that this is possible. For example, instead of redrilling the front FB hubs, is it possible to use an FC 5 lug hub on the FB spindle? And for the rear, I'm assuming that the axle shafts will have to be pulled out of the differential and re-drilled in a machine shop (which I have access to).
Anyway, help is very much appreciated!

I believe the FC Convertible wheels are BBS or Enkei. I don't remember.
The front I did with a TII Brake swap, as well as a full 1" spacer to clear the calipers.
The rear I did with a Ford 8.8 Rear End Swap, as well as a full 1.25" spacer to clear the calipers.
Good Luck.

is currently doing 492 to the wheels at 20psi.
So far so good. I also went to the track a couple of weeks ago, with no problems.
Edit: Oh, and I got em from Ebay.

Thanks for the help! Directfreak's car was the one I had in mind.
What is involved in swapping the TII brakes on the front? What Mazda parts do you use and what parts need to be fabricated/bought? Sorry if this has been asked before, I just wanted to ask while we were on the topic.
What if I didn't want to run the TII brakes on the front? Could I get away with re-drilling the FB hubs, or are the FC Vert wheels an incorrect offest, and need the added width of the spacer?
Thanks!

Respeed makes a conversion kit for the FC 4 pot calipers and it allows you to use the 5x114 bot pattern I will look up there web site in one minute. And I also have a set of vert wheels in great hape that I am selling for $175 PM if you want picks.
I will post what you need for the conversion when I find the site.
This is the old group by thread and will answer some of your questions https://www.rx7club.com/group-buy-center-69/first-generation-big-brake-kit-respeed-461164/ But you will also need to by some spacers that are not sold in the kit.

Go with the 2nd Gen Brakes
You need to search around a bit - some people have recently installed the Respeed front brake adapter kit, and can comment on the quality. It looks good in the photos. I designed my own conversion and had my machinist make the parts.
I used the 1990 RX-7 convertible wheels, and they are definitely 15 inch BBS alloys. I am not sure about the width, I think they are 6 1/2 inch. The offset will require a spacer to work with the front conversion parts. We used a 1 1/4 inch spacer which my machinist designed. The cheap way is just a spacer with long studs, but we did it the right way, with the spacer bolted to the hub, and a set of wheel studs protruding from the spacer. My machinist still has the CAD program to make these on his NC mill, but they would cost you about $250 for the pair.
I am running 205-50 front, 225-50 rear, no problem with clearance in the rear. You can just redrill the rear axles and rotors. Any machinist who does narrowed axles for drag cars can do it for you. The rear brake conversion is a real hassle if you don't have good fabrication skills, and I have not seen any kit for it.
