Anybody interested in leather seats for your 1st gen?
I'm trying to get approval for a group buy and need to know what patterns I will need for most of you 1st gen people. Whats the most popular 1st gen seat everyone has?
What are the differences between the highback seats and the seats with a separate headrest? I'm guessing the highback seats are from a base model and the separated headrest seats are the GSL and GSL-SE. Are the highback seats the same for all 1st gen? The same goes for the seats with a separate headrest.
Any help is appreciated. Keep an eye out in the Group Buy section for this if it goes thru.

I really need to know if there are any differences between the different years of seats. Are all the highback seats the same from 79-85. Likewise on the separated headrest. Tell me what you have and post a picture if you have it. I want to make sure I get the patterns most everyone will need.

The highback seats were available up until 1981 inclusive. The separate headwest version was available as an option in '81 (GSL only, GX in Canada) and became standard in '82.
Therefore I don't think there's as much of a market for the highbacks since there are fewer of these older models still on the road.
As for the leather pattern on the separate-headrest seats, this pattern was the same from '81-'83 inclusive. From '84-'85 the leather had a different pattern which had cross-stitching in the seat and backrest.

the head rest models came on 1980 models and a very few of the last 79 gs delivered to the south west region of the us it also came in leather as standard feature on the le in 1980 the seat had the same patern till 85 with the exception of the few leather version only in 84,85 and a few late build 83 gsl rx7s that went to the fl,ga,sc region. so same patern for the head rest style seats 79-85 the high backs were also used in rx7s from almost all 79 and all g model through 85 and those would all use the same patern.

I'm assuming you're taking existing seats apart to obtain the correct patterns? Fit would have to be PERFECT for me to even concider covers.
If that's really the case, then is there a way you can make leather seats with cloth side pieces? One on each side of the seat, and the same on the seat back? It could be nicely finished off with cloth sides for the headrests so the match.
The side strips would help with the sliding around thing, but also it's always the first place to develop a hole in leather seats.
