It's probably going to be louder than stock, since you're using a header. You should notice a power increase with the full system.

BADASS, the Monza header is really poorly manufactured. I've read and seen pictures either here or on Mazspeed, of a cut open Monza header, where at the "Y" junction, they don't custom fit the pieces very well. The result is that there is ALOT of pipe flashing on the inside of the Y, and this impedes your flow.
I do not know how thin the metal is.

RacingBeats systems are alot of dough to choke on, but they are bullet-proof. They will last and last!

You're so much better off in the long run.

In addition, as mentioned in another (very recent) thread, just the header alone can't do much as you're still restricting flow at the muffler, etc.

I recently installed the complete RB system (header, presilencer, and muffler) and couldn't be happier. The first day it was a little pungent as the header paint was burning off, but that's just odor and nothing to do with performance

It's not always true, but in most cases when it comes to performance parts you get what you pay for. Racing Beat has been at it for over 20 years and you don't keep a reputation that long without the products to back it up.

EDIT: when the exhaust was being installed the tech were impresses by a) the build quality of the RB stuff, and b) the price. RB is expensive when compared to lower end stuff like Monza, but actually very reasonably priced when compared to effective aftermarket sport exhausts made for other applications.

I have a monza/pace setter muffler.

Let me just say if your tight on money. It's fine. Other then that it sucks big hairy donkey *****. Very tin metal sounding, rusts in no time. The header is no good as what the other members said. I bought one a returned it. The muffler is still on my car, because it does however have a very straight through design. You can pick it up and see through it.

I don't recommend it for anyone to buy.

I had one and got rid of it for the racing beat system.

The paint on the monza system burnt, and kept burning, and i began to believe it would never burn off. THe car smelled bad everytime i got in it. The sound wasnt too bad, very nice low tone. Not loud by ANY means. Very very very quiet. (just the muffler).

Oh yeah, plus, the muffler dude had to custom weld it because it wasnt the right size, even though i said it was for my exact car.

Even if you are broke, save up the extra month and get a Racing Beat, its that much better.

I noticed a DECREASE in performance over stock muffler w/ the monza.

That's funny. The paint on my header was GONE after 5 minutes.

This is normal for any header, it's not a "design fault" in any way. I honestly don't know why anyone bothers to paint headers, since they will be rusty after a week anyway. Maybe so they don't rust in the box before they're put on?

I wondered that myself. I was kind of hoping RB had a chromed header, but you never really see it anyhow.

My RB header came chromed! It's all blue and chit now but it is chromed.

I'll bet that they paint the headers so they don't "rust on the shelf" before they get sold. Could you imaging opening up a box with a rusted header in it?

Chroming is BAD for headers. The chroming process weakens the metal and makes it more crack prone (this is why you should never ever ever chrome suspension parts) and the chrome holds heat in. Ever wonder why coffee pots are chromed? Anyway, the chroming holds the heat in at the chrome, so the metal gets hot and can't dissipate it.

Now, if they chromed the INSIDE, then that would be better. (But you'd still have embrittlement of the metal) Of course Jot-Hot coatings coat the inside as well as the outside, so the metal stays cooler (because of the inside) and looks half decent (because of the outside).

It's EXPENSIVE though.

Doesn't anyone make stainless exhaust systems ??

most of the aftermarket exhausts for the Rx7 in the UK are stainless steel

I know its prone to cracking as the cheaper grades are more brittle than mild steel but why does everyone on here seem to have carbon steel exhaust systems ??

Racingbeat does not chrome their headers, they are made out of polished stainless steel.

RB makes stainless steel headers? I thought they only used lead pipe. (or 1/8" thick wall mild steel, which weighs about the same )

Mine came painted black, which burnt off in a day. If it's stainless it sure doesn't look it! No complaints though.

Chroming weakens parts that much, huh? I feel bad for all those 'high performance' hot rod guys with chrome everything-but-the-wiring-harness-and-warped-fibreglass-'body'

Per the Racing Beat
Streetable Header/Collector 84-85 RX-7 -12A MT
page:

The Header/Collector assembly is constructed with .125-inch wall, mandrel-bend, mild steel tubing for increased durability. Both flanges are flame-cut from .4375-inch thick steel plate for positive gas sealing.

They don't say what finish it is but it looks like chrome to me.

I guessed it might round up to a fraction but I'm more used to Metric

my pacesetter system is pretty loud. loud enough that it's gotten me pulled over twice. no ticket, but definately a hassle. i wouldn't call what's inside the headers 'flashing', i'd call it a semi-open clamshell. VERY poorly done. the muffler is already starting to get louder... i'm assuming it's rotting/burning out. i've had it for just over a year. it does give a little performance. not a whole lot, but you can tell it's faster. the coolest thing is i'll expect a lot more ponies once i get rid of it for something worth a crap!

personally, even if money were tight, i'd rather risk a ticket than get a Monza exhaust.

little known fact: i heard there was a study relating use of their parts with premature male impotency ....
