Any long term CP racing R&P users out there?

I got a line on the second (newest) variation of CP racing's rack and pinion and I need some advice on whether or not its worth purchasing. Every thread I find here in regards to their r&p is very incomplete.

Any steering ratios compared to stock? How has it held up? I have seen their first set up did not get the best reviews in the world but there is even fewer remarks in regards to their next one (that supposedly fixed all the issues).

The reason I ask is my steering my in 79 still seems pretty decent. I've only recently purchased it so I do not know if the steering box had ever been replaced etc.

Thanks for any input you may have!

I have no experience with CP Racing, but I do have a Mustang rack from an old ReSpeed kit, and it's awesome. I haven't driven an FB with the old steering box, but I've driven a few BMWs with the same recirculating ball steering box design and they're terrible and totally incomparable.

Recirculating ball steering doesn't have to be bad. It's inferior to rack and pinion by design, but it's not bad if maintained, and actually quite nice in my opinion. I prefer mine to all the power rack and pinion cars I've driven.

Thanks for the response team! I'm sure I will regret it down the road but I think I am going to pass up on it for now. I have other areas of the car that need to be addressed first.

Unless they're asking an arm and a leg for it, I'd buy it if I were you. That way if something goes south in your steering, at least you have other options. You could always resell it too, there are always going to be people wanting rack and pinion conversions on our cars.

Something else to consider, apparently the first version of the CP Racing kit disabled the self-collapsing feature of the steering column, I do not know about the second version. I would not want to drive in a car that had an integral safety feature removed. I do believe the RE-Speed version retained it however.
