Question Any differance between JDM 12a and USDM 12a?

I just picked up an SA (I'm still trying to resize for posting) and it is said to have a "engine from japan" recently put in it. Looking at it of course I see no differance, and too I have nothing to compare it to as my '85 has a chevy lump in it.

So I there any true differance in it?

The porting is different and the Jspec puts out about 12% more power. The US version was the least powerful of all the 12A export versions due to anti pollution constraints.

If I could verify that this is a JDM engine would it be desireable to anyone over a run of the mill 12a.

I plan on selling the engine/transmission either way.

There was also a 6 port 12A released in Japan and possibly Australia.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those. But as for the Japanese engine making more power, I never heard that. Their rating system is just different, IIRC.

Moses is right, its just the terminology and how they measure power its not the same, but for advertiseing purposes it works, HP v/s Kilowatts etc.

So far I found on glaringe differance. Where the throttle cable mount is, it's not the same. I might be wrong, but I'm going to take a trip to the 'yard tomorrow to verify and maybe pickup some pieces. The PO of the car just gave up, so I'm going to try to get 'er running and then sell the drivetrain.

Even more neat is that it has a stock 5speed in it.
