Another no start... any ideas?
i have been driving my 83 rx7 around for 2 months with no issues the other day went out to warm it up and no start.. it turns over and sounds like it wants to go i pulled the fuel line to check if the filter was clogged and it is getting lots of gas also checked the spark and it is strong bought new cap and rotor and put it on .pulgs and wires are also new.. so when i turn it over it smells like gas so i figured i flooded it waited 2 days and still nothing. note before this happened when i first started it with the choke pulled out the motor sounded like it was lagging it had a lower tone for about 30 seconds then resumed with the normal idle sound any ideas on this situation would be appreciated
Probably just flooded it. Letting a rotary sit will not deflood it like you can do with a piston engine.
1. Remove spark plugs.
2. Rotate motor by hand (clockwise) and watch all kinds of goop ooze out of the spark plug holes.
3. Clean and dry spark plugs, then reinstall.
4. Pour an ounce or two of 2-cycle oil down the small barrels of the carb.
5. Pump gas pedal three times and attempt to start.
It might take a little effort to get her running, but those steps should get you there.
What happens when a rotary floods is, the oil film gets washed away from the surface of the housings and results in no compression. If you were to take it to a shop right now, the first thing they would probably do is check compression, see none, then call you and let you know that you need a new motor. I believe this happens a lot, and is probably the number one reason for these cars going to the junk yard.
Good luck!
