ANOTHER New Guy

Howdy Folks, names Brian and as can be interpreted from the thread title I am new around these parts. I am a United States Marine that just recently returned from Iwakuni Japan after being stuck there for 2 years. I registered on these boards either thursday or friday, checked the classifieds for a first gen on friday, posted in a thread, got some info, and drove 4 hours the next day to purchase the vehicle and now I am the proud owner of another FB. Feels good to have a car again for the first time in over 3 years especially another 85 RX-7. Bought my first FB about 5 years ago but had to sell it due to joining the military and I have been yearning for another one the second I sold it. The new car runs a bit rough but I cant wait to get to work on it. Dont worry I wont clog up your forums with a ton of "wtf d0 i dew?!?!?!1" posts, Ill make sure to utilize the search function first before I do that Guess thats long enough of an intro post, heres to hoping I might be of some value to this community.

Semper Rotary!

Glad you were able to get that FB up in Norfolk.

Another temptation nearby removed and enjoyed by another.

Thanks for the welcome guys and/or gals. Got a chance to take a closer look at some of the maintenance the previous owner did and I am surprised the car survived the 4 hour trip back to NC. I shoulda inspected it better when I bought it but I knew I was going to buy it no matter what shape it was in as long as it ran even for a second. I will take some pictures when I get a chance.

Well, major issues with the stock rebuilt nikki carb on this thing. Secondarys are disconnected (found the return spring just sitting on the bracket somehow), its idles @3k rpm's, distributor cap is loose (screw missing to hold the thing steady) The rats nest removal seems to have been succuessful by the previous owner but there are some vacumn issues I believe (there is a hose plugged up with a 1/2" drive extension) To solve these woes I figure I will just throw down some big money now and save some hassle by buying up a whole holley intake and full headers back RB exhaust. The engine only has 20k miles on a new oem mazda installed engine, chassis has 150k miles on it. Dont believe its been ported and I dont think anywhere here in hicksville north carolina will have a shop that would be able to do it for me. Other than those two major upgrades what else do you think would be a decent upgrade for this car? I heard something about 2nd gen coils? I will try to get some pictures of the car tonight and find somewhere to host them tomorrow.

Sorry for the low quality but I just ran out to the parking lot and took these pictures with my phone while on break.

the rest of the pictures.

I spent some time here at work yesterday trying to fiddle with the carburetor. Adjusting the idle screw didnt do a damn thing. It seems the previous owner disconnected the mechanical secondarys for a reason, it runs SUPER rich. I was looking through the manuals online that I found a link to in these forums but I couldnt get anywhere with it on this damn crappy government network. So basically, if anyone has a diagram and/or picture they could show me where I could find my metering and acceleration pump screws to try and bring my idle down stop pouring fuel into my engine I would appreciate it. The smell of gas is really bad in and around the car and I am scared to drive it for much longer for fear of blowing up my exhaust or something else important.

on a side note, I ordered the whole holly intake kit and RB headers back exhaust with the mallory fuel pump yesterday for a grand total of $1700 dollars. Figured I would just wipe out the jank *** rebuilt nikki carb from the system all together and start over new with something i was most likely gonna upgrade anyway. Until then though i would like this stock carb to run reliably and not destroy the car.
