another exhaust thread

I've asked similar questions before but this is what i want to do racing beat header want to do the road race but the standard one would be fine. but i want to keep the quiet sleeper sound that i already enjoy with basically a stock set up one cat and turbo muffler on a stock header no heat shield. but with the new header when i put that one wont be till about April next year but i was thinking about an Apex'i muffler for a tail pipe and maybe some presilencers and hoping it would be quiet enough but still look good and not entirely stock. what do you'll think. i am open to opinions thanks for everything.

The Apex'i will be LOUD!!!!! I recommend some sort of presilencer(s) and a borla at the tail. They sound so nice!

If you do anything to the exhaust that is not a stock replacement, expect it to get louder.

RacingBeat presilencers. They will quiet it down a lot more than if you just stuck a few mufflers under it.

Easy. RB header to straight pipe to RB muffler. Louder than stock but still sleeper material and you will get quality parts

You could do a full RB system with an added presilencer. That's probably going to be the only way without fitting like 4 Borlas under the car

If you want only the APEX'I muffler showing, then get the RB header and presilencer. Granted, it will still be loudish, but not like a free flow.

well i guess ill have to go play with some stuff then i guess thats ok. i just want it to be quiet and also the the neighborhood i live in used to leave notes and stuff in my mail box about how loud my old car was. old vw bettle no baffles just the hollow muffler and some chrome tips thats it. louder than some v8 in the area. that part of the reason but not most of the reason i want it quiet

I think if you quiet it down respectfully which can be a bit louder than stock you wont get anymore notes.

since your leaning toward quieter a RB full system with presilencer
but RB says even this is louder than stock. I think if your used to really LOUD!!!!!!! this will sound quiet.

go back to stock and you will strangle airflow through the engine.

Why not use a Racing Beat single-outlet header to a Borla ProXS offset/centered in the cat location to a Racing Beat main muffler in back? Basically the RB system with a Borla instead of the presilencer. Might or might not be quieter than stock, but it will definitely be very quiet and should perform okay. Be sure to use only RB thickwall pipe in 2" OD.

You've learned well.

bugman, the RB stuff will probably still have enough volume for you, but you won't get any more notes.

I never had any noise complaints about the dual pipe RB system I had briefly on my '83. It had just enough volume to hear the engine, but was not anoying or droning in any way. If you have the money, you totally need to get it. Or the single pipe system to save a few bucks. It still outflows stock. The Borla in place of the presilencer can work, but never having heard one in the cat location coupled with an RB muffler before, I can't tell you how it will sound. The one thing I do know is it is half the price of the presilencer.

Hmm, maybe one more Borla Pro XS in the back might work. Instead of getting the RB muffler, you could try the Borla back there, but again I have no idea how loud it will be. I plan to do this on the '83, but I do want to hear the engine so the volume level will need to be adequate but never droning (I'll use thickwalll pipe to prevent the anoying drone).

How do you guys get your thickwall piping bent? No one around me would bend any of the RB piping I had because it was too thick.

U-bends. You measure, you cut, you weld. There are no shortcuts to a custom worthwhile exhaust system on a rotary.
