Alternator belt?

I was reading and I came along a post about removing the emissions. It says that the belt(a lawnmower belt I think it was) going from the main pulley to the alternator needs to be shorter when removing the air pump. just wondering if this is true and should look into it even though its running fine, alone from a few clutch problems.

a small shotgun belt can be used to prevent waterpump slippage caused by the drag of the stock cooling fan.

the car will run fine, but at highe RPM the belt can slip...this is one of the reasons we have dual belt alt pulleys to prevent that slipping.

i don't know the part number of the shotgun belt, but it can be gotten at any autoparts store.
