Alternatives to stock center console speaker balance.

I ditched my stock stereo long ago and no longer require the stick in the center console which adjusts the sound to the 4 corners of the car. What are you guys using here or just leave the worthless stick? Too bad a satellite radio tuner/controller didn't fit right there...

Mines more built in with the window switches I guess. Plus, it's lower on the console and I believe more square.

One neat Idea i think would be to install a kill switch with a key, i doubt any thief will think that is a kill switch ... would work even better if you have the battery behind the passenger seat.

i think a kill switch for security should go someplace more secure...maybe under the seat or under the dash.

maybe you could remove the joystick from the plastic square, fill the hole with jb weld or some other type of filler material, cover the plastic square with some type of thin fabric (so it doesnt interfere with the fitment around the edges) and reinstall it...follow me? i was thinking of doing something like this to mine when i get around to buying a headunit.

Ive been contemplating putting a drink holder there, but it seems that anything bigger than an 8oz. can will conflict with 1st gear. Hell, even be lucky to hold one of those small cans of tree top apple juice haha

The '85 has the balancer in between the seats, not up there where your clock is now.

If you have an Alarm System. This is a Great Spot to put the LED.
A Thief looks in the Car they can't miss it.
If they want your car bad enough it won't matter.
But for the Crash and Grab guy's at least they can't miss it, and may slow them down alittle and look elsewhere to steal a car!!!
I have heard of people that go to Radio Shack and buy the Fake Flasing LED light and install it some place on there Dash.
Just a thought for Ya.

Ya, the BASS idea sounds good since my wife would bitch with my current plans. I need a way to dial it down or cut the amps. Ok, so +1 to the BASS **** idea.

With the relocation of the window switches in an 84/85, the cutout fits an iPod quite nicely.

Haha, keyed kill switch attached to a piece of 1/16" thick plastic....seems safe to me.
A piece of tape over the ignition would probably slow someone down more..lol.

When I upgraded the stereo in my old GSL, I just glued a piece of black plastic over the hole. It looked perfect, but it served no other purpose than to cover the hole.
I personally detest those damn joysticks. I cant go 2 minutes without knocking it with my arm. Stupidest location ever!

The bass **** or alarm LED ideas are prety good, or even a switch for whatever you may need. I once ran 2 amplifier switches there which worked out good.

Get creative!! Do you really need us to tell you what to do with the joystick???? lol

Its purpose it not there audio really ... it to satisfy all these little asians, they couldn't handle the real shifter, so they opted for a tiny one if you catch my drift. This is also why short shifters are populor in the japanese market more than here ... its just another toy to please the lady :P

LOL classy.

Nope my Ipod video will be a perfect fit. I had been thinking of doing this the past week as the panel for the control stick is broken.
