Alternative for HTR 200s?!

Ok so I need new tires and I'm obviously disappointed in the discontinued sumitomo's 185/60/13 size.... Any personal experiences with other brands would be greatly appreciated. Looking for the closest comparable tire or better to fit the stock wheels.

Tires for 13" wheels are getting difficult to find. There are almost no performance tires left, aside from race tires. Best to search the stock size or the 205/60r13 84 stock mentioned.

175s aren't that bad. Its not like your car weighs two tons.

I have Kumhos on my car it sticks well enough for me.

I did, I'm more or less looking for opinions on the available tires from fellow first gen owner's experience. I believe my only options for 185's are federal 595s or Falken ziex. If anyone here uses those I'd appreciate some info on them.

****, good 13"s hard to find? definitely, and better yet, 15's are becoming the new 13's... not very many 195's or 205's being made anymore either

That is true. 14's are just as bad as 13's I think and the smaller tire sizes for 15's are getting more rare but not impossible to find. Stock or similar to stock tire sizes are almost impossible to find now like I said. When I was in the market for tires for my stock wheels a year ago if I wanted anything in a 205/60r13 I was looking at paying in excess of $140 a tire and I had a grand total of 2 tires to choose from locally. These tires were not much more than a standard all season so I decided to go with an uber cheap all season that recieved good reviews from a local store for $60 a tire in the stock size. They arent great but provided enough grip to have some fun on the track and are holding up well.

Moral of the story, if you want a decent tire for 13" wheel your going to pay a fair bit, if you can manage to find them. If your not looking for ultimate grip or doing a lot of track days then just stick with a cheaper tire in the stock size.

I have a pair of 205 federal formozas in the rear and they are terrible. They look cool since they stick out more, but they handle like garbage.

Yeah, you get what you pay for. I have the RWL 205/60x13 Cooper COBRA tires
right now and they aren't very performance oriented but they look good

I did see these on tirerack and at $138 per tire, I thought they were pretty decent
for a high perf tire. The hoosiers are way too soft but the toyos look like they may
be the ticket for play tires. I'm sure they won't last real long in normal usage.

Eh... get a set of road/gas efficiant (at leas somewhat) shoes. Then get a set of track shoes.

13" wheels are cheap enough.

This is what I did. But my car looks so sad when she's on skinny tires.

Need to find her some cheap, fat shoes she can strut around in. I really do miss those Sumitomos...

Those are nice tires, but I already wasted 150 on two crap tires. I think I am going to try my luck at the Federal SS-595's. They seem like good bang for the buck.

I recently replaced my 185s w/ HTR200 215 60/13.

They're 2 years old new, but you got to take what you can get.

Too low a profile and not wide enough. Those things will ride like rocks.

You want to something about 205 wide if you can find it. A 205/60-13 tire is almost
the same diameter as the stock 185/70-13 so its a great size becuase it doesn't
affect the speedo or gearing much and gives you a larger contact patch width.

To each his own but you have to face the facts with 13"s wheels and take what you can get. Everyone was saying they wanted a "in the middle tire" but one set of craptastic street tires and a set of full race tires sounds real expensive. idk what you plan on getting out of this but i figure those 195/45's would work ok and the reason you went with 13"s was for the "poor man's" short ratio solution. If the rides too stiff buy a caddy and a hemroid doughnut.

See, here in the 1st gen section, some of us like to keep the stock wheels because
we like waffles ( ) or we want to stay true to the original size as much as possible
so our speedos and gearing stay stock. I understand the use of the small, low
profile tires to gain some ratio advantange in limited uses and if that whats
wanted, go for it. Just pointing out the cons of doing so.

But for the same money you could get R888s or RA1s which I feel would be a hell of a lot more bang for the buck...

If I actually autox'd my SA I would consider the higher end tires, but it's just my daily driver for the summer. I want some good ones I can whip around in without the sloppy sidewall flex of my current 205's. Unless there are some 205's with less flex, I believe I will stick with the stock 185's. At least until they are no longer available.
