alright this is my first foray into the fb, as i have had nothing but fcs. i was given this 84 and it has the stock steel wheels on it do the later fc 4 bolts bolt up ? it needs a carb, distributor, and starter. are all years interchangable? is there a best year carb, and distributor to look for? it has 184k on it, assuming it was well taken care of how much more life can i expect from it? by the by its a 12a 5 speed.
thanks all in advance!

Why do you say it needs a carb, distributor and starter? If there is a problem elaborate on it and we might be able to help you fix it.
If the parts physically arent there, then you may want to upgrade. Weber, Dellorto, or Holley are all common enough carb's to be considered bolt-up systems. You have a few options with ignition, I don't know the specifics of that someone who is will be along shortly. A starter is a starter, just go ahead and replace it.

one trick i use is i go to www.mazdatrix.com and find my year car part and see if the other years fit as well...so if you see another year at your pick and pull you can confirm if its the same part on your car...hope that helps...

if you go by www.mazdatrix.com then they go by what is an exact fit...you could go with other years and such but it won't be without modding for some things...that is when the search and asking in the forum comes in...so if you see on mazdatrix that its a different year but still wanna see if a certain year can interchange then ask or search...
