SC Alright guys, exhaust time.

What do you guys think about a 3" straight pipe to a jegs hushpower muffler?
I'm thinking the one with the (not quite sure i remember the sizes exactly) 3.5 inch inlet and outlet, cause i'm going to be running turbo soon.

Any ideas on how loud it will be?
I'm not worried about emissions, SC never does checks and the cops don't care.
Besides, it's getting cold so i'm working on helping global warming XD

3" exhaust on an NA is LOUD, ask the widebody. It's also the best way to go on a TII as the turbo quiets the exhaust better than many mufflers/pre-silencers. You will need a muffler and pre-silencer if you want any peace.

I agree with trochoid 3" will be blisteringly loud you will hate life. If you are like any and all other 1st gen guys we all say we will be going turbo soon and yet most of us are still NA.

If you plan on driving the car before going turbo you will NEED muffler and pre-silencer if you like your ears or your girlfriend rides in you car.

Eric (just my 2 cents)

Until you go turbo you won't have any hearing or power! That large of a pipe will kill your performance NA.

Well i'm not going to put the exhaust on until i go turbo.
I recently acquired a legitimate 12at block, i'm gonna give it a medium to large streetport and then slap that in.
So, 3" with just the muffler on turbo, what do ya'll think lol.

One of these?
http://www.jegs.com/p/Hushpower/Hush...75690/10002/-1

Way expensive, and doesn't say what the packing is made of, either. I personally wouldn't trust it. And anyway, I think it'd still be too loud. Remember that any porting of the exhaust is going to increase noise a lot. I'm planning on using a 3" Racing Beat presilencer and a 3" Magnaflow 5x8" oval. Only comes out to a few bucks more than that Hushpower thing.

If your turbo then a single muffler can work. Some of the guys around
here are turboed and ported 12as running a good muffler and its not
too load. The turbo really kills a lot of the noise.

It depends a lot on what your definition of "too loud" is.

Z-beater had a single 3" Magnaflow oval on his car for a while, and it was too loud for my taste. Now he has two, and it's not too bad. Granted, he also has a big turbo, which I'm sure makes a difference.

I agree with PercentSevenC, it really depends on what you think is to loud. I have a similar set up to what you want...turbo car with a 3 inch exhaust straight through with a single apexi N1 muffler. Its half-bridge so its gonna sound a little louder than yours but you get the idea. I took the video with my cell phone so the sound quality isnt the best. Anyways, I bought a rb pre silencer and will be installing that as well.

Sounds like an RB presilencer is gonna be necessary lol.
But what will the presilencer do to me in terms of power loss?

On a NA car that would probally be undriveable on the street imho.

Now heres a question I have been tossing around, is it really worth it to spend the extra money for stainless steel exhaust piping and the extra for tig welding?

Not sure what the rb pre silencer would do for power, prob hinder it a little bit. What I am gonna do is get a cut out as well so if need be I can always flip a switch and be wide open. No point in getting a half bridge if I cant take advantage of its power.
Ricky

Ohh I do that Apexi N1 silencer that you stick in the *** of the muffler but when I put that in I can REALLY feel the car get WEAK!

You shouldn't lose much with an RB presilencer other than noise.

I don't think so. My preference is the much cheaper and easier-to-weld aluminized mild steel with a coat of high-temp exhaust paint for longevity and header wrap on the downpipe.

You guys have no idea what the **** you're talking about. I have 3" exhaust on my car, infact a portion of my exhaust is 4". Are any of you capable of telling me I make no power? Also it is loud, but if you buy the right muffler it will be tolerable. I run 2 DynoMax Bullet race presilencers and a Magnaflow muffler and it's just a little too loud. With a resonator and 2 mufflers it would be really reasonable. It also depends on what pipping you're using. The thicker the wall the quieter it will be.
It all depends on weather you use the right muffler, that is not the right muffler. Stick with Magnaflow, Borla, or Racing Beat.

I installed the rb pre silencer on the car this weekend and it gave the exhaust a nice DEEP tone. It is also quieter too. In regards to power loss, its min if any because I didnt notice a change.

Hyper is dead on on the wall thickness. To give an example, find 2 pipes of the same diameter and different thicknesses. Tap each with a hammer and note the difference in the ring. That tinny ring some exhausts produce is due to thinwall/stock muffler shop pipe.

Dan, stainless steel is worth it if you pan on keeping the car long term, which I assume you do.
