AK-Performance, any good?
Im thinking of buying this muffler from them
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MF3DT...Q5fAccessories
but i dont know if they are any good, quality and sound wise, my stock one rattles and it sounds like crap, and i just did a cat delete on my 85 GSL SE hoping for a deeper better sound and it still sucks.

Standard mufflers will not hold up to the extreme heat of a rotary's exhaust. Do a little searching, there are some options that have worked out. Otherwise, spend the big bucks for Racing Beat exhaust...

Do not get.
I got a muffler that was from ebay. Black dual 3" tip. Looked AWESOME and you could barely see it under the car. Fast forward to a week later. Drove on Road Atlanta for about 7 laps and when I parked, Looked at the muffler and the black paint was peeling off. Apparently it was just a silver muffler that they spray bombed black. So the paint is peeling. Now I have had it for about 4 months. Paint hasn't peeled much since then, but inbetween the tips, if I rub my finger there it will be covered in rust. Also, the muffler is starting to rattle at idle and half throttle at 2800-3000RPM. I believe it is falling apart on the inside, and it is beginning to sound bad. When I first got it on, it sounded good, deep. Now it is raspy.
The next muffler I will be getting will be a tried and true BORLA.
EDIT: That ebay store did have fast shipping though.

Quality costs money. Think of the hassle you'll save yourself if you only have to replace the muffler ONCE for the life of the car, instead of once a year. RB mufflers may cost a few bucks more, but they sound great, last a long time and add power.

Yeah the good ole you get what you pay for is really holding me back, but i cant afford the bigger brands, i was thinking flowmaster which is a bit more but not at racing beats level, i believe 250 for the tail piece for racing beat, and i dont want to pay more for the piping i just need the muffler, and i dont know if a flowmaster will sound good at the tail...

i don't think they look to bad on an fb, i've got a friend who used to have a set up like that, in my opinion, as long as it's straight flow thru style muffler, it won't really matter, because it's not retaining that much heat, now if it's painted some fancy color, then yes it's gonna fade because it's cheap lol.
I have a cheap 30 bucks (including shipping) muffler from ebay, works great, with that said i did blow it up but that's because i almost flooded my engine and had all that gas inside and it ignited in the exhaust lol...it was a LOUD bang when that thing fired haha.

Outside May be OK
Austenitic, or 300 series, stainless steels comprise over 70% of total stainless steel production. They contain a maximum of 0.15% carbon, a minimum of 16% chromium and sufficient nickel and/or manganese to retain an austenitic structure at all temperatures from the cryogenic region to the melting point of the alloy.
Somehow, there are a bunch of Chinese suppliers that can supply 304 SS products for very low prices. That isn't to say I recommend the muffler -- just that the outside will probably remain nice and shiny, even after the innards fail.

companies love to use extra words to describe steel... its a steal of a deal.
once my dad taught me about steels i learned to just not really care about the other words they add, just the series.
My dad teaches machining, worked as a chemist, metallurgist, at a steel mill. He is considered one of the best teachers in northern california for machining. so when i ask him about a steel, i trust what he says.
i doubt that muffler would last on any car. the exterior would look nice, but that's it
