Airdam II
How about this, closer to stock but still meeting the goals of
-better breathing
-reduced front end overhang
-reduced bumper protrusion
-reduced weight through elimination of bumper hydraulics
-preserved front end collission protection through use of stock bumper substructure

lower lip height is same as stock - all I'm doing is moving the bumper structure back a few inches and replacing the stock surfaces under the bumper that cause lift with additional breathing holes, screened... and integrating it all into one plastic front end cover that eliminates the stock bumpre cover, lower valence, metal header panel, and bumper struts.
looks pretty good, except i think the trim should be left out. i really like your idea of recessing it back. is it chiseled as much as the original or a little less drastic? i think it would be better chiseled a little less than stock. also do you think you could create a more detailed colored sketch, showing the mesh etc to give us a better idea of how it would look?
Well i kinda like the idea of the first one, but modified.
Here is the look I"D be goin for. more rounded upper point, and more of a series3 front dam look (w/ lower brake cooler inlets and raised center inlet):

I think that you guys should study the 3gen aftermarket bumpers and try similar designs. Then you'll have a winner. To be honest, put up a poll with 3 or 4 different skirts and include the stock look and see what people would actually do..... spend the money on a bumper they like or they prefer to just do up the stock look.
I dunno, maybe its just that I like the bumper "lip" where it comes out from under the hood/header panel. I like the look of the new design with the intigrated stripe, but it still sits too far "under" the hood...

Ok, so I managed to find a picture of something similar to what I wanted. This is a custom air dam though, but its damn close to what I kinda want (I think)...

What do you guys think of that? Lots of room for air intake, retains the stock front nose lines, adds fog light buckets, etc... I also want it so that it replaces the stock bumper cover and all that junk up front with one nice piece so theres no seams to crack and what not.

i like the design that mantis has. i don't think that mantis will ba able to make everyone happy with just one air dam. i read the last thread on this and man it was starting to get heated. people were i want this and other people were i want that. and they were goin back and forth. i think we should keep the thread to feed back on mantis's design and not what everyone wants. so it doesn't end up like the last thread.
thanks guys

Last night we had an epiphany - why not use the small crease in the beltline, and continue it around the front of the car so the front end is smooth but not a blunt, rounded shape?
BTW the rectangles under the headlights are not driving/passing windows as on the 2nd gen, but turn signal/parking light units.

(in this illustration I incorporated Iotus' concept of a raised centre to see how it'd look)

I like the original concept best - but instead of making the center flush with the side ports, bring the lower edge forward some. Similar to the spoilers they put on FC R1's...
BTW - what program are you using to do that? Photoshop?

That last drawing (with the wrap-around body crease and raised center) is definitely the best one so far, but one thing I'd like to see would be an incorporated splitter (like the one on the pics that RotorMotor posted).

The last version looks really nice. Lends very well to the original lines of the Rx-7 with an updated look. Anyone wanting to add a minnow screen to the front their car should like it too!
