Red face airconditioning

I had an 85 rx7 about 2 years ago and im about to buy another one. THe reason i sold my other one was because living in waco texas the aircondtioner wasnt the greatest machine. My question is is there anyway i could fabricate a more powerful blower motor in the 1st gen. The air blows plenty cold but the volume just isnt that great especially for how hot it is down here. Ive put the thought of a newer rx7 blower or even a miata blower in my mind but never tried. Is this something anyone else has messed with before or is there another solution? Thanks, Karson

i know what you mean about the blower. it isn't very strong at all! it seems like it is in a good place to try some modifications! try some different things out and let us know how it goes. i'm sure there are a lot of guys that would like a more prowerful blower.

Although most of us just take the damn thing out
BTW, I live in Las Cruces, NM, and have never used an A/C. Just roll down the windows, and you're set.
My P/U truck has 'Ram-air' air conditioning as well as the real A/C. It uses Ram-air technology to spit a shitload of air out by your legs.
The rexes have the lovely moonroof to let a bit more air out.

I personally agree with you guys as thats what i did for the most part, but when your taking the wife out to dinner or going somewhere with the lady, she wants to be comfy... I know i know, but is there any solution to it, i rather do something to keep her off my case. Karson

Im not an electrical genious but i do know my way around the dash in a rex. So i guess what ill try to do is get a blower motor out of a miata and see if it will go in with minimal fabrication. My concern is how bad will it look since the original is right there at the bottom of the dash just shy if sticking out. The reason i think ill try the miata one is since the car is smaller. Ill do some research and if anyone has any suggestions let me know, and if i have success ill let yall know. Thanks, Karson

I am currently "rebuilding" the ac in my 85, it sat for 5yrs before I bought it and got it running. I live FL and have owned 7's in the past and wasn't thrilled with the ac performance. When I get it going I plan on putting a foamboard wall behind the seats, with a window or just not all the way to the ceiling. I will post cabin temps with and w/out it. Steve.

riding with the windows down in 100 degree heat is just not the same as having a nice chilled car. especially since alot of city driving contains stoping and waiting. i break plenty of good sweats at the job i do for a living and really don't care to start sweating just driving to the job.
i also prefer to hear the stereo better instead of the whistling of the outside air rushing by my window.
a better ac system mod in one way or another would be very welcome.

Im interested to see what the foam wall does for the temps. If it makes a difference let us know, yall said it best with the stop lights and all. I didnt want to sound like a wuss but highway driving is fine...... but 90 percent of my driving is in town and i hated getting out with my back wet! You guys in Florida know what im talking about with the heat, theres no way around it if you dont have airconditioning. Thanks for the replys and lets see if we can come up with something! Thanks, Karson

Kinda funny, my first FB (back in 91) blew like an arctic blast. My current daily driver blows cold also but not near as strong. I suspect that theres duct leakage and/or the evap is plugged up with dirt, limiting the amount of air passed onto the ducts. Drop your fan out and reach into the evap and see how dirty your hand comes out and you'll see what I mean.
