air to water ol cooler, do I need it??
Ok, Im tired of not hving an Oil Pressure gague on my car. I have the fitting frmy gague, but I dont know where I should put it. Ive been toldthat I should ditch my topmounted oilcooler that has water from the radiator running through it and get the front mounted oilcooler instead, that way I can drill a hole in the oil filter munt and plumb my gague in there. wll what about just drilling a hole in one of the big bolts that connects the oil lines? there is a large banjo bolt at the rear of it. Or I was thinking that I could put the lines from my other 12a that would connect to the input n out put of the front mount cooler to the engine, but hok them to each other making a loop with out a cooler, eliminating the need for the water cooler so I could put the normal oil filter fitting back on with out the water cooler an then tap it for the gague ftting. Racing Beat makes an adapter plate that would go under the normal filter mount that is already tapped for the gague, but It wont work with my water cooler. I just got one off ebay for 15.00 (unless I get outbid..) and I may try to see it I can make it work.
Any thoughts? Denny you seem to be a voice of reason here. what do you think? am I truelly insane?

What I'd do:
1. Pull the stock sender out.
2. Screw the oil pressure gauge's adapter in the resuling hole.
3. Tighten compression fitting onto sending line.
4. Mount gauge in car somewhere.
5. Go drink beer.

great idea, but there is no stock sender! I think that this must be an older engine or something because i does not have a spot for the oil line to be plumbed in. any other ideas?

ok. let me try this one more time.
On the original engine (that I ble the apex seals off of... oops.) the sender was located right belowthe oil cooler. drivers side rear of the engine. right beside this was a t fitting for my water lines as well. on the replacement engin there is no hole drilled at that spot for a sender. When I wired the moter in to the car, there was no sender to plug the stock gague's wires into. so now I have a car tat does not have a pressure gague.
Reeally Im not insane, the sender is not there!! Im looking for a good spot to put one. I have a nice Autometer gague already installed in the car, but It just isnt hooked up to anything.

They sell/used to sell a rear banjo bolt tapped for a standard fitting... but guess what? it's a long banjo bolt meant to hold a line on, not the little plug thingy used on cars with the water/oil cooler. But you could probably make one yourself...
It's a good idea to swap to the air/oil cooler, just because the water/oil jobbie SUCKS. Maybe you should worry about having an oil TEMP gauge instead of pressure!
And BTW you're not crazy... my '80 did not have an oil pressure gauge or idiot light, and there was no boss in the rear housing for a sending unit to screw in to. Couldn't put on one there if i wanted to, without the RB kit/wallet emptying device!

My 81 had a gauge, is it just an SA thing with no gauges?

Well I pulle the banjo bolt, drilled it out, and then realised that the tap I had set out to use was a course tap, rather than the fine tap I need. Damn it. talk about thelittle things getting you... So now I am waiting to get to my faher in laws this weekend since I know that he has th right size tap.
And I think tha I willl add a oiltemp gague. that and a water temp. Hell in autometer I trust. Never have trusted stock gagues.
