you can just remove it. just block off what it connects to.

Have you removed your cat?

Not an expert here, but IIRC without the fresh air to the cat, it's prone to clogging.

Then your car will run like chit

Are there any side effects to removing just the air pump and blocking it off? I'd like to do this too as I've already removed the cat, but don't want to remove the entire rats nest right now.

blocking off the points where it connected should do you just fine.

yes, there are some side effects to removing the air pump. you have to remove the belt Lully and depending on the year of car your vacumn brakes will be gone and you run it with just old fashion brakes. you need to block off all the lines going to and from it. this will clog your cat as someone earlier said. so if u do I would remove your cat. some of the rats nest might not work but I'm not sure what will and won't.

uh....no. the brake booster vac hose connects to the intake. removing the air pump will have no effect on the brakes. only real problem of removing the pump leaves just the alt belt to drive the wp leaving very little belt contact with the pulley. some experience slippage at high rpm. an easy fix is what some have dubbed the yahoo belt. just a small belt the fits tightly around the main pulley and wp pulley and is installed by just getting the belt started around one pulley and working it around on the other.

i'v got the yahoo belt

so i dident get around to doing it this weekend. i atempted to put a stereo in.. atempted is the opritive word. the previous owners did some rather keife wiring so i need to rip the entire car apart to properly do it. so im driving around with my deck on the pasanger seat for a week untill i can get the time to fix it.

Hehe - Yahoo belt. It sounds like the belt used for the Mazda3 AC compressor. I've never seen a car that had a belt from the factory without adjustment until this car. We have one, BTW, and I was shocked when I went to do a belt replacement on it and found that there was a "special" tool from Mazda to install that belt.
Maybe they took a page from the RX-7 club?? :-)
