Air Pump Removal
Hey this is my first post.
I recently bought a 1984 GSL. Its got the ISMA package ( wing, front air dam and brushed stainless steel trim thing that goes around my roof, and says "Targa7" on it.) It's got a sunroof, leather interior, 5-speed LSD, and the 12A. So my question is, will I gain any HP from removing the air pump? It runs on it's own belt, so if I take it out, it wont affect anything else. Has anyone else done this?

Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you picked up a nice car.
You will not add any HP by removing the air pump. If the catalytic converters are still on the car then you need to keep the air pump on to prevent damage to the converters. If plan on removing them and going with a performance exhaust then you can remove the pump at that time.

Well, my car doesn't have a cat on it. It was like that when I bought it. I bought it about 2 weeks ago. Ill make a thread, and tell the story, and post some pics.

Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. If the cats are already gone, then look into the rats nest removal writeup in the FAQs. If the airpump is going, you might as well get rid of the rest of the emissions 'stuff'.
In my sig is a link to the online FSMs, carb manual and other rotary related reading. Download whatever you need and start reading. The more you know/learn, the easier it will be to work on your car and you'll have a better knowledge base when asking those questions about problems you get stuck on.
Fwiw, the pics in your other thread show a stock front end, not sure where you got the idea it's an IMSA front end. The IMSA package has a different front end along wider front, rear fenders and tires/wheels. The spoiler is one of the dealer optioed ones. The true IMSA wing is similiar but much wider and taller.

torchoid and rx7doctor are very correct. our rx-7 veterans would not steer you wrong. they're good people. many people have removed the air pump and have caused more harm than good. removing the emissions units and rats nest on your car isn't a bad idea if you dont have any emissions testing in your area. and removing the emissions control parts from the engine is always fun. make sure you download the fsm's that are in trochoid's sig and remember to post those pics of your car!!! welcome to the forum my friend.

Oh, I read somewhere on the net that the IMSA package included a rear spoiler, front air dam, and brushed band, so I assumed That was what my car had. I prob won't start taking parts of, until I get the rest of the car in the shape I want it to be in, which is what I'm currently working on.
