Your car won't run any different really, but you can't get rid of the airpump/ACV without getting rid of your Thermal Reactor and installing a header system. It can overheat and damage apex seals if they happen to end up near the exhaust ports, not to mention that your car will backfire like mad if you delete your airpump and keep your TR. Trust me, I know. The short drive from my house to the garage that installed my header was interesting to say the least.

It is a possibility, yes.
The air pump supplies cooling air to the thermal reactor. Without this cooling air, the thermal reactor's inner chamber can overheat. When the motor is shut down, the heat can transfer back into the motor possibly damaging an apex seal spring if an apex seal has "parked" itself in the exhaust port window.
