air pump to acutate the 5th and 6th ports

on my SE, the tube from the converter to the intake manifold rotted of on the converter, my 5th and 6th ports are not working. i seem to recall that you could use the air pump and T off a vacuum line from the acv to operate the 5th and 6th ports. anyone know anything about this? i'll keep searching but i haven't found anything yet. thanks in advance for any help.

as i have been continuing to search, it seems that all of the threads that contained pics are so old that no pics appear... bugman posted in one thread but i don't like his setup as the silicone in the air pump hose is unreliable.

Too much work + the chance of pump failure. Check out my photo album. It has a pic of the mod I use on my FC. Works very well and cost was about 10 bucks in parts from the plumbing section at the local Ace Hardware store.

will do, thanks for the advice. i should just fix the pipe that was welded to the converter..i'm afraid that it will not weld because of the rust.

I found the easiest way to plug that up is to cut it off leaving a 3-4" stub. Hammer what's left flat, then start folding it over, hammering each fold flat as you go. First fold should be about as long as the flattened pipe is wide. Fold at least 3 times. If there's any leaking, seal with muffler cement.

on my old SE i put a fitting in the ACV's vent line, the one that runs to the front of the car. it took a few iterations of valves/restrictors to get enough pressure to open the ports at the right time

the S5's have the essentially have the fitting in the INLET to the acv, i think use that next time

I'm wondering if it is possible to go from the air pump directly to the aux ports and bypass the ACV? Of course you would have to step down the hose from the pump to the aux ports. In between the pump and the aux ports would be a solenoid that snaps open from an RPM switch. I guess I'm wondering if you have to go through the ACV if the pump is being used to supply air?

that is essentially how the S5 does it. however the air pump puts out way more air than the 6 ports need, so you'd need to bleed most of it off.

remember it needs like 2 psi @3000-5000rpm*, which isn't much

*the optimum opening point varies with the setup.
