Air intake swap?

I was just curious about the air intake system in the 1st gen. Could it be swapped out in favor of the tube intake with a conical filter? If so how could I size it (apart from trying on a variety)?

Anything is possible.
You could use a carb hat that is used in turbo applications and then run piping from there somewhat away from the heat of the engine and put a cone filter at the end of
It.

No, No NOOOOOOOOOO! You cannot use a carb hat on a n/a application, been there tried that and so did BDC. It'll fall flat on it's face in upper rpm.

Thanks for the input. . Then maybe if someone wanted to try this idea they could louver the outside of the hat for extra air flow that is needed at the upper RPM range.
Or you could run 2 inlets to the carb hat that would be fed with 3 inch piping with cone filters at each end.

The possibilities are endless but the real question is would they be efficent and is it worth it?

^ That's not the question.
He is looking to see if an alternative style, in this case if a system that is normally used for FI would work.
