Air Intake

I would like to remove the air intake box from my FB GSL-SE, and install one of those short air filter elements. I found one on the HKS website, but it was almost $200, is there a cheaper alternative?

I've seen pictures of some other systems but don't know who makes them or where to get them.

Is this anything like a cold air intake/box that I have heard many guys talk about here on this forum?

Thanks for all your input!

That appears to be the going rate for a bolt up kit.
Mazdatrix and RP Online both get about 200 bucks for the filter and AFM adaptor plate.

Im sure you could find just an AFM plate somewhere, and use any ol filter. The square,4 bolt AFM is common on many Japanese cars.

Been ther , tried that. No difference! Waste of money, just get a drop in K&N flat filter as the factory box works as a cold air intake already (if you cut off half of the extension in front of the rad).

I second that and went a step further. Cut the opening of the stock airbox cover and enlarge it by four times then funnel cold air from my front airdam.

Air filter Mod

Guys,

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll do the mod on the stock airbox, by cutting out the opening to get more airflow and drop in the K&N filter.

Please keep the suggestions coming!

Take the box out! Go to NAPA or Advance and pick up the spectre air sensor adaptor model 8141, I think they are like $15. And then a nice K&N cone filter for like $50 and your all set. Easy and realy nice looking!!!!!!
Oh, you will have to be able to mount it to the bracket by the shock tower.

Thumbs up

John64,

That's what I'm looking for, it gives the engine bay more room, the stock box is really big.

Anymore ideas out there or pictures?
