Question Air Intake

Hey guys, ive got an 85 GSL SE and ive been looking around and no one seems to make a Cold Air Intake kit for this car. So if anyone knows of one id appreciate it if they could tell me where to order it, and if not then does anyone have any suggestions or instructions as to how to create your own cold air intake? Thanks

Here are some ideas for cold-air and ram-air induction for your SE:

You can see the ducting to the stock airbox, but not the front headlight lid, which is vented and routed to the air piping:

It's true that the SE's did come with a factory 'cold-air' pipe going in front of the radiator, but unfortunately, this was often drawing air that was near the radiator and tended to be pretty warm. I live in AZ, so the desert heat is something to contend with. A shorter pipe length will help with performance, but getting the coolest air that you can will assist with good combustion. HTH,

You would benifit by dumping the air box which is very retristive and putting an kn at the end of your afm. Leave your extra piping to the filter and you will notice a difference, I ran
experimental piping to the front of the bumper and located the kn filter there and noticied
a significant difference on top end. rx7doctor

Even though the stock air tube was in front of the radiator, I fail to see the difference. Maybe I am missing something here that is very simple, but indulge me a bit. Fan is running and pulling air into the engine bay correct? Then please explain how you will be sucking hot air. Actually the SE tube was, if I remember correctly, above the radiator. Directing air from in front but from the top side. Hummm.....let me think on this. I do know how hot Az is, I spent many years crossing it, still don't see the gains moving it, but if you say it is then I will go with it.

thx guys, i got it working now. There was a significant difference after about 4k. Now what i think im gonna attempt is to run the cone out in front of the radiator (i took out my condenser and AC units cause they were broken anyway) so that the air it pulls in is a little colder.
