air control valve?
i was wondering what the air control valve looks like on an 82 12a. is it the valve just below the carb on the drivers side that hooks to the air cleaner and also the yellow emissions switch?
if its not then what is that valve? any help would be appreciated.

well i looked at the fsm and i actually think what im looking at is the coasting valve...but i can't tell from the crappy pics... my problem is that when the car gets to 800 rpm to idle this valve moves and bumps up the idle again. i replaced ALL of the vaccuum lines this morning and its running much better than it was before but still have the idle bounce thingy....

forgot something. when i poen the air cleaner and cover the hole leading to the valve the idle smoothes and becomes very close to stable which is why im asking about it

well.....first off i would like to apologize to trochoid for my dicish actions about this matter. I was an *** due to frustration and despite what i had posted earlier trochoids FSM links and "the crappy FSM photos" actually were exactly what i needed. Upon further research in both the FSM and the haynes manuals i have tracked it down to a malfunctioning shutter valve.
i have ordered the new one (almost 100 bucks through the dealership and my dads shop) and will be installing it in about 2-3 days when the order comes in.
i also wanted to apologize to the other forum members for my actions as well because i know that my actions were uncalled for and really set a bad example for newer forum members. Thank you everyone for your help on this matter and i hope that this can be left in the past as a lesson learned for me.

The fact that you are openly apologizing is a hard thing to do and shows that you are being a man.

As far as the shutter valve, it is a common problem. Next time post up in the WTB section, you can get a used one for $25-$35. Do a search in the archives on a Thread I did about the removal and reinstallation of the carb. It will save you some more frustration.
Well, if you said something out of line to me, it wouldn't be the 1st times. lol. Never saw anything that needed an apology, but I'll accept it either way. Glad you got your problem sorted out.
