Aftermarket Sunroof, anyone?
has anybody put in an aftermarket sun/moon roof in their cars? If so, what brand and where did you purchase it.
Also
I have a 85 base model, so they would need to cut a hole for it, how much would it be installed?

We have a really nice after market power sunroof in out F-150, i forget who installd it, but it works perfectly and its a beautiful install. it has a cloth bottom just the lik the 1st gen stock sunroofs, and they matched our interior PERFECTLY, we bought the truck used and we didnt even know it was after market untill we found the paperwork for it 3 weeks later in the glove box. its similar to the 1st gen sunroofs in the sense you push the button once and it pops up, but if you push it iagain in will slide back into the roof and open compleatly, or you can stop it anywhere in between. Although, unlike the 1st gens, its power .

I just deskinned the roof of another car, cut the top outta mine and welded the new skin over top.. it wasnt that bad and I have a factory roof Well after adding the drains and a headliner...
Aftermarket sunroofs in a 1st gen a re usually ugly and due to the curves of the roof design seem to leak after a little while..

Im not a body or paint man, but I enjoy it. Most bodywork is a matter of common sense, its not really very hard.
Once I got a roof from the junkyard, I cut it all the way around at the top and back, so it was a clean and flush cut. Then I measured where the sunroof was suppose to go and cut the roof out at 1 in wider than the sunroof, then simply placed the new roof on top and welded it every 6 to 10 inches, going around the roof multiple times, so that the welds eventually ended up 1 to 1 1/2 apart. You cant go welding every 1 1/2 to start with or you will warp the crap outta the metal. Start to finish it took about 6 hours. I have actually done 2 of them, the first one took like 6 hours, the second one too me about 10. The reason is the ******** at the junkyard game me a roof off a 79 which you know is different where the roof goes in at and has a pop up latch and not a crank one. So I had to cut out for the difference in the top and had to weld in the metal piece where the crank up goes. It was a pain in the *** on that one, so If you do it besure to get an 81 up roof... Anyone local I dont mind helping with another

Yeah I got some other pics of before/after pics of my 80 wrecked too, you gonna love this.. Frame bent in like 10 places that I counted, after that I stopped counting. I wouldnt have fixed it but everyone kept saying you cant fix that, its impossible, so guess what 3 months later, several cases of beer and 1800 in junk yard parts, the 80 RX-7 lived again! I'm getting my buddy bob to scan the pics today, I sold my scanner

Oh by the way heres the car, and the piece of metal I cut outta it, but thats not a lot of proof thats all I have for now, will have more later tonite
