Aftermarket Ignition Questions

Ok, first of all I didnt search, Im not feeling well, and I figured I havent seen a thread like this in a while anyway.

So here are my questions:

1. I think Im gonna run MSD Blaster 3 coils...Any reason not to? Theyre only a few dollars more than the Blaster 2's, and they have the longer neck to prevent arcing (my current problem, no pun intended).

2. I want to run an (as in single, so now answers including more than one box please ) MSD box as well for direct fire. I want to buy an MSD 6AL and use the rev control to prevent smoking my apex seals too much more, but will this work with only one box? If only the leading run through the box, wont only the leading be rev limited? So the trailing will kinda allow the engine to continue to creep up in the RPMs...Right? Also, will the RPM limiter even work "out of the box" on the rotary, or will I have to buy more stuff (other than RPM chips or whatever)? Basically, is it possible to use the 6AL out of the box without a lot of hassle, or would it ust be better to use the 6A without paying the extra money?

only running a msd box on the leading means that you could only control the rev limiter on the leading plugs.. so it would not work completely...
other than that, you can use the soft touch . the highest plug, however, that they make is something like 8k rpms (which is not very high for our uses)

Well, with stock seals, I dont plan on going over 8,200 (Ive heard this is the "cracking" point?). So I was gonna set it at like 7,500, or 8,000. That way, once I hit it, I still have a little play before the trailing keeps moving it up to the "cracking" point. I dunno thought. Anyway, anyone wlse have some input?

PS - Im not sick anymore, waahoo!

Now your on the topic... I'd like to know how you can wire in MSD boxes for both leading and trailing?
Point is, after I'd turbocharge my 13B (using a dizzy in Europe)I'd need a stronger spark, and I would need boost retard. The MSD can deliver this, but I'm completely confused on how to do it. One box for leading and one for trailing? And using the stock dizzy to time this? Realy not much of an idea. The whole MSD site is always talking about ****-ton engine's, and I need info on the real thing (= rotary)

I'd be a bit wary of having the trailing plugs only firing in the nether regions of the combustion chamber at high revs.

Dont waste your money on the al TJ. Revhed is right. Get a shift light, or adjust your buzzer to alert you of redline. Dont rely on the al to save your ***, learn to shift at the appropriate time. No rev limiter will save you from roaching your motor if your going downhill as an example. Use a 6A on the leading, and if you got $$ to throw around, get one for the trailing as well.

Additional question:

If you have 2 boxes, is there anyway to bypass the dizzy?

If your going that route then why not run blaster ss coils?
but to answer your question, yes you can do it

Dont waste your time unless you plan to spend extra cash on a dual msd-6al setup, for leading and trailing.
even then the performance gain will not be worth the extra cash you spend on the extra box, and you will still have to use the diz cap anyway.

Just run a single 6a on leading, dont forget to get the msd wires,
unfortunalty there is not a wires set for our cars with a direct fire system installed so you will have the get the universal 6cyl set and use them.

If you have problems with shifting then grab a nice 4" tach with a nice 1" shift light and set it 500rpm early

depending on when you plan to shift, I dont think you will "roast" your engine from missing by a couple hundred rpm.
I have missed by a couple thousand

any more q's?
