Aftermarket gauge layout

Hey guys,
I have a totally insane lineup of gauges lined up and coming for my car. Just thought i'd post my ideas of where i'm mounting all this stuff and get some input and see what you guys think.

I am going to use a 2 pod apillar I purchased from gaugepods.com made for a FB. Then I have a 3 gauge plate above my cd player in the dash. Please excuse how crappy my picture is, I just made it to get a general idea of the layout.

Here is what gauges are going to be in the positions related to the numbers in the picture.

1 - Prosport premium boost gauge
2 - Innovate motorsports XD-16 (reading the outputed signal from my LM-1)
3 - Prosport premium Water temperature gauge
4 - Prosport premium Oil temperature gauge
5 - Prosport premium Oil pressure gauge
6 - Pineapple racing Dual EGT rotary gauge
7 - Prosport premium voltmeter gauge
8 - Prosport premium Fuel pressure gauge

Then in the glove box i'm going to mount my Greddy profec B spec II boost controller, my microtech turbo timer, J&S knock sensor gauge. I still need to figure a place out for the LM-1 but am probally going to get a window mounting kit. Note that I plan to have it so that the glove box still closes and covers these electronics.

Then I plan on mounting a Black Prosport digital tach/shift light on the steering column. I also plan on having a laptop for tuning under the passenger seat, and I still need to figure out what i'm going to do with a water injection controller...

I think it's going to be a sight to see all these gauges lighting up in sequence. At first I was going to go with the autometer cobalts, but these gauges look better IMO, are much cheaper, and apparently have beat Defi and autometer gauges in accuracy in recent magazine tests. Here is a peak of what they look like when ignition is applied:

Let me know what you guys think! I have alot of work to go, but she is going to be a interesting car!

Damn, those are some slick gauges. Must cost an arm and a leg....
Thats gonna look so trick.

I dont so much care for the gauges in the glovebox, but with that number there really arent many more places you can go.
Im tempted to say you should figure out a way to mount them right below the glovebox, for the best functionality but then again the glovebox really isnt a terrible location either...

Why not get some cups and place them on top of your dashboard instead?

Personally I like a more subtle look thats why I was thinking about the glove box for alot of the electronics. Plus I don't think having thousands of dollars of electronics being easy to see from outside is such a great idea.

The gauges are actually priced amazingly (about 80-100 dollars USD each, hard to believe I know), but the whole build of the car is where it gets expensive.

Well regardless, I think you can move two of the gauges to the steering column instead of the glovebox. I just don't feel the glovebox.

If you dig it though, go for it.

Remember I am also going to have the digital tach/shift light on the steering column. I dunno either way it's going to be pretty crowded haha.

I'm not shooting down your idea, the whole point of this thread is to get some ideas out that I can consider.

I was thinking about this the other day, I may need to add a couple more eventually. For me, the glove box is a nono. I don't think it would be that hard to mold small pods to mount on the cluster cowl. Another option would be to remove the center vent and put the extra ones there.

Move the radio down and put the two in the glove box there. Or better yes... just do a new cluster with a digi speedo. And get a tach... to bad those only come in 2" (from what I could find). I'll be getting these for my Suby soon... post your impressions when you get them hooked up. The Legacy owners all seem to be more than pleased... and we seem to be a hard crowd to please.

Off topic a little, but what kind of steering wheel is that? Is it removable?

Dan..the project seems to be comin along Nicely!..Thought..what about gettin rid of the Radio?..say get an aftermarket With Remote?.That way you can hide the Radio(Under the passenger seat?)..that frees up some room to give you SIX gauges in the center, and still keep the Vents..LET me Know How those gauges are too, please.I saw them and I am interested in gettin some for MY Project...hope you had a Good Xmas.DAVE.

The steering wheel is a momo "race" steering wheel. You can get a removable hub to go with it, but I haven't really had a reason to.

I may have to consider moving the cd player. But I do also like the idea of moulding pods for where the vents are...

i actually really like how dark these guages are without lights on. I especially like the ones in blue how did you pay 80-100$ for each guage when they're around 30-90 off the site?

http://www.prosportgauges.com/Perfor...uges-Amber.htm

any how i really don't understand the whole glove box, i've seen a few done up like that but how in the hell can you read the guages? not very parctical at all I think. I think the better way of doing things is to get 3 guages on the A pillar and for the volt meter if you really think you need it I would mount one like this one:

http://www.alchytester.co.uk/volt-pg.htm

like this in the car.You might find something made for audio systems too they are small enough and pretty accurate.

Don't do the "A" Pillar if you can avoid it. Creates a blind spot, and you really can't be looking at it with a 400hp FB.

Since I am going to remove my A/C, I am going to mount two of my "A" pillar gauges where the AC controls are. The J&S display is going on my steering column.

As for the ProSports...Cheapo imitations..

If I could do it again - it would Definately be the Autometer Nexus Gauges.
A real trusted brand. Not to mention, easy to install, as you can daisy chain
them all. Click on the link for more info. They can be ANY color combination, and can be set to change colors when entering any pre-determined RED zone.

Thus, you only have to look when it turns red. Not keep monitoring - and keep your eyes on the street.

The autometer gauges are great if you have money to spend, but if your on a budget like me and need some cheap but good gauges that also look good, go with the i-Equus performance 8000 gauges. You can get all your basic gauges in both mechanical and electrical, and they are priced pretty reasonably as well, about $40 to $70 per gauge depending on type. I've got a custom gauge cluster to replace the original that houses all the important ones for me (I'm still NA), and I will be getting the matching speedo. Here are some pics.

I agree with directfreak on those gauges and the removal of the pillar A.

Also I am down to see the write up with picture for the cluster from 85rotarypower.

Ya and I still haven't finished the whole thing. This is my first time fiberglassing and I'm quite particular about it looking good, on top of having to work and college. I've got over 20 hours between the gauge cluster and the radio surround, and I already know things I would have changed. I'll have a writeup when their both done. I'm still waiting on a speedo for the gauge cluster and the radio surround is still in primer and needs much more work. Its beyond me how, but some of the holes for the various switches and gauges were not correctly spaced, even after measuring twice and cutting once, so I have to re-fiberglass the radio surround.

I don't notice a blind spot with my dual a-pillar pod. The problem I have with it is I keep knocking the ash of my cigs or hitting my hand on it. 218k miles on the body and that was the cause of the 1st cigarette burn in the carpet.

I suppose I could go with a smaller steering wheel, but I do need to be able to see the 2 gauges that are left in the cluster.

I hate gauges mounted near the stereo, you need to look too far away from the road to see them realisticly..Prosport gauges read all over the place and I have tested many to be inaccurate especially the boost gauge..If you want the blacked out look get defi's but they are also expensive and still do not read boost accurately..This is my work in progress, just to see how I have my gauges set up..

Petey, your gauges above the cluster are exactly what I was refering to earlier. Wjere did you get the holders and do they come in right and lefthand versions?

Btw. if you want to paint them to match the interior, I think SEM has a rattle can interior paint that is nearly an exact match. They have a gray that I used on mine that's perfect, looks oem.

his holders actually look just like the Apex'i holders. You can get them at any rice shop or online for about $20 each. You just bend them to fit.
