Aftermarket Antenna wiring Question

So I read this thread.. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/stereo-yet-another-power-antenna-967600/

and ended up buying this unit.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

I bent the old bracket and did some custom fab and she bolted in nice. I understand how it gets wired. Black - Ground. Red - "Unswitched" power. and Blue - To blue wire on Original Connector.

Okay so my question is where is there a power wire in the rear of the vehicle that i can tap into that always has power when the car is on. Like an interior light. My interior lights in the compartments arent working and their is no bulb in the dome light but has power to it. I could run a wire all the way up to the dash and find somthing up their, but i was hoping their was a line in the hatch.

Thanks for any info! BTW is an 85 GS

That's a good idea. I've got a Radio Shack power antenna that I can throw in mine, But I also have a spare stock one with a good mast but a bad motor. The current one in the car has a good motor but a bad mast. Do I cut my losses and throw in the RS and do a little custom wiring? Or take my time and swap the good bits from both stockers together?

I guess if I was keeping the stock stereo, option 2 would be best, but the storage bins had to come out and the amp(s) were already missing. The stock stereo's display doesn't come on reliably, plus I'd like to throw in some nice gauges in the double DIN space.

Hmm, single DIN plus some nice gauges or stock that doesn't light up the display every time and no cool gauges? I've got an A-pillar pod for two gauges... I wonder if they're the right size. Look like 2" or so will fit.

Back of the hatch, middle, near the rear lock.

I'm in the process of doing the exact same thing, used a tap to connect right into the 12v line into the rear hatch light (immediately below the rear hatch latch).

--remove the lens on the light
--take out the screws
--pull the light forward, use a voltmeter to identify the 12v line, and attach the tap.
