Afterburn stories.

Alright... time for a afterburn/backfire thread.

Today I had just finished seafoaming my 80 SA22... took it for the test run to burn off the rest of the carbon.

There is a large hill on my test drive route... 55mph speed limit about 5 miles from the house. I come down the hill, then turn around at the very bottom and go back home... about a good 10 mile test loop.

As I approach the bottom of the hill, ready to make a u-turn... I see a Honda Accord heading up the hill, I think to myself "I'm gonna pass this guy on the hill."

1st gear shift at 6700rpm, 2nd to 7000 rpm, 3rd to 6500... as im topping out 3rd I pass him at 70 something mph. Shift to 4th. BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM. I look behind me to make sure i didn't drop the damn muffler in the road. I guess I scared the **** out of the guy in the Accord because he had swerved almost into the wall as i spit that flame out of the tail pipe.

I still get a bang out of my '79. I've decided to replace he thermal reactor and clean up the emissions junk. Texas stops checking emissions after 25 years. Hopefully that will quiet things down a bit.

Great story. Same thing happened to me when my 79 alternator died at a stop sign. A sonic blast occurred that scared the crap out of me. I'm in southern California, so heads were spinning in the neighboring vehicles, freaking out thinking someone has a gun somewhere. Joggers and pedestrians freeze.
But I replaced the alternator and sadly my backfiring has stopped.

LOL....I've scorched a ricer's plasti-apc-crap-bumper with a nice fireball like that before. Except I was at a stoplight.....He started it though, wanting to keep revving up....I did the same and on about the 5th let-off at about 7k rpm, i just hear BOOOOOOOOMMMMM....and I see this fireball engulf the civic in the rear view. That was my funniest fireball story.

mine shoots about 4-5 feet of fire if i rev it and let off a few times, but now that its getting on in miles, it has started seeping oil past the oil seals. i was on the freeway a few days ago and a newer focus was seriously tailgating me so i downshifted into third(bringing the rpm to about 7200) and just let the engine brake the car. when i shifted into 4th again to speed up there was a HUGE and i mean freaking rediculously huge cloud of oil smoke. and that nasty blue smoke just lingers there in the lane lol.
