Adjusting idle A/F

Im trying to get my stock nikki to work right... When I adjust the a/f mixture screw to the stock setting (i read the stock setting on this site), I tightened the a/f screw in as far as it would go by and then backed it off 3 1/2 turns. My problem is when the car is idling if i try to accelerate or punch the throttle the car falls why its doing this... The only way to get it to not fall on its face is to loosen the Aflat on its face. Im wondering /F mixture screw to the points where its about to fall out. And a side note I had my carb rebuilt last year but i don't know how well of a job was done...
Thanks

what rpm is it idling at? set it to 750. Then turn in mix screw until engine is hunting. Then turn it out until there is no more rpm change. Readjust idle speed as needed. Repeat adjusting mix screw.

Once that's done, there is one more step: grab a beer, pat yourself in the back and drink it.

The problem is when I have been adjusting the air/fuel mixture the rpm's don't change, it just changes the amount the engine stumbles when i give it gas.

and you have it idling at around 750? If so, something else might be wrong, i.e. vacuum leak, ignition (includes timing), fuel delivery (less likely).

Don't forget to check timing too. You'd be surprised what out of adjustment timing can do in terms of lack of power and improper idle.
