Aching sound on passenger front

So my 1980 has like this moaning sound on slow dry corners. Somewhere between a slow dry tire turn (no power steering) and an aching from the suspension. Anyone else have something similar?

Just looking for a place to start…

edit: it only does it on left turns like in a parking lot or pulling out….(with sound coming from the right)

I do not think it is alignment related as I have massaged alignment numerous times an it is a constant.

While we’re at it… question number two.

do other 1979/80 w/o PS feel rough in that you feel the reflector between the lanes hard in the steering wheel? Not hard hard, but unusually hard…. Of course I am comparing to newer cars with higher tires……..

I have a long list of mods, but looking for stock feedback… or experience going from stock to strut tower supports with coil overs, camber plates etc.

I had a brake pad groan (is that what you mean by aching?),the pad locating springs were tired. That was on the rear but maybe similar thing for you up front.

Or maybe wheel bearing? But if it's making an audible groan I'd expect it to be hot.

edit: ok, I get, you're not in motion when it happens, just turning the wheel :P
I think KC's onto it.

Check the idler arm bushings. Open the hood with the car off and have someone turn the wheel side to side while looking at the idlers arm cylinder.

The car is in motion when I hear the sound…just slow. Like backing out of a driveway or parking spot. Sound like it is coming from right strut tower area.

starting to think it may have something to do with strut tower braces I made….at the bottom they have plates that are probably 1/8 by 1 x 4 “ that are bolted to the subframe via the engine cradle mount bolts, then to upper strut tower, then to hood latch bolts. My thinking is I feel the road reflectors more because the top of the strut tower would transmit the shock from upper strut tower directly down to subframe right where the steering box is located.

Am curious if other cars with stock setup have heard groans from right front tower…..

I’ll just need to let someone else drive as I walk next to it with hood up and see. it just does not always do it.
