Accident! (2 days after body shop)!!!!

God damn it all to hell.

I was JUST leaving work. The intersection is about 100 feet from my driveway entrance/exit of where I work.

I head out of the driveway, making a left. I hop into the left lane, and then the right lane, signal, and start my turn.

I was NOT speeding, I'd be surprised if I even made it to the 35mph limit yet. I tap the brakes for the turn, and they LOCK. I ****** slid into this late model Chevy pickup's tire.

WTF? I wasn't speeding. Why the hell would my brakes lock up? I know I don't have ABS....but how they locked up at about 30mph is beyond my comprehension.

I have never had a problem with the brakes before.

Anyways, as they started to lock, all I thought was ****....I hope this stops an inch from him.....and then BAM.

My $2000 worth of bodywork GONE. I hit him directly on my driver's side front corner onto his rim.

No damage to him of course, just a little of my fresh paint on his wheel.

My valence is in 2 pieces now. Just to the left of driver's side of the fog light hole is the separation.

My driver's fender has a bend in it above the wheel.

My fog light is busted.

Man, what shitty luck.

So, the guy wants to just dismiss that the accident even happened, since he only has paint on his wheel. I figure, it can't be MY fault, since my brakes locked up, so I should call the cops, get the report for the insurance company, etc.

So the cops come by, and take both of our info. They write it up as my fault, for failure to control my speed, and estimate I was doing 15mph over the limit.

15 over the limit would be 50mph.....in about 100-150ft? Yeah ****** right.

I found out that although I have a piece of paper saying my license suspension ended on 12/04.....the computer still shows I have a suspended license......so now I get to go play court tag. Yay.

I had to leave me car there, since I'm "technically suspended". I'll have to go pick it up (less than a mile from my house) later tonight.

I'll post pics when I get the car back later. I'm in such a bummed out mood. I always have horrible crap happen near holidays, and thats why I hate them.

I wasn't ****** speeding.....and my brakes locked up for 5 feet. That doesn't make any sense to me.

I knew it wasn't the other driver's fault, but I just jumped out and yelled at him......WHAT THE F*&(!!!!! and scared the **** out of him.

****.....

Awwww man that sux, I know you just got your car fixed . Im sorry . I know it hurts, but learn a lesson. In this situation, I would have just agreed with the guy to make nothing of it. It couldnt have been his fault, and since no harm to him to let it go, that was pretty cool of him actually (some people are real dicks, read:*my neck my neck* Lawyer*sue* ). Nothing good could have come from involving the system/gov't. Just legal hassle and red tape and crap for you to deal with other than fixing your car. Just remember that for the future, deal with the hassle, and get it fixed. Again, sorry to hear of more trouble for you and your 1st gem.

EDITED by Inittab - I've edited the cursing out of this post. timmya2, I apologize for singling you out because you're certainly not the only offender. But guys, I was sitting here reading this tragic story, sorry 'bout your bad luck Cody, and my 8 year old daughter walks up and starts reading some of the posts. She does this from time to time and it's usually cool by me. Then I start seeing all the cursing and I'm like WTF THIS IS BAD! A curse here and there to make a point is fine but spewing profanities without virtue is just not good. Please... this forum and I quote from the FAQ "strives to maintain a welcoming and family type atmosphere for it’s members". So if everyone could work a little harder to chill out with some of the cursing madness that would be great. Thanks!

Well,

The suspension was something else. I had a few points on my license from **** a few years ago, and it finally caught up to me when I lived many states away. They held a hearing without me there, since I couldn't drive back to Indiana, and decided to suspend the license from September 20 something til December 4th.

I must have misread this sheet I recieved from them, and I think I have to pay a reinstatement fee before it's valid again.

Thats no big deal, I can have that paid on the 30th or whenever Monday is and the court, or whatever I pay is back at work.

Here's some pics.

Sorry to hear about the car man! I was on a cruise with some others in my other car following a 2.4 turbo 1st gen Neon and they made the light and I obviously wasn't going to so as I start applying pressure to slow down the car just locks them up and I slide like 15ft, doing the same speed as you about 35mph halfway into the intersection. Come to find out the turbo engine in his car has enough boost to spray oil out one of the vents (I would say PCV but that isn't it) in the valve cover and I most likely hit the oil he was laying down on top of slightly damp payment, not a good mix. Luckily the traffic with the green light had already seen what was happening and waited for me. Again sorry to hear about your bad luck

maybe you should get a different style front end.
could be a sign...

Im not a fan of the kaminari front end, but I think the side skirts and rear cover look good.

I think the mazdatrix front would look clean on there.
Like $280 or something. vs getting that one fixed. kaminari peices are rare.

That was a bad call on your part. Even if you had comp and collision, you only had to handle it with your insurance company, no need for a report from the po-pos. On top of that, the other guy was just going to ignore the accident .

Just a thought, maybe you hit a patch of black ice or something, how was the weather and conditions?

Nah - no black ice, just some gravel in the road.

The other guy doesn't care, and he said he's still not going to do anything with insurance, so I'm not gonna bother reporting it to my insurance.

I am realizing it was stupid on my part to call the cops now. I was thinking if my car locked up, or because of the gravel, that it wouldn't be considered my fault, and I would need a police report.....well yeah..thats not gonna get my car fixed, so whatever.

The damage isn't horrible....and I was eventually gonna take the valence off to try my hand at making copies.....so, I have to look at it as a good thing or I'll explode over here.

In case I need to swap fenders, will a 79 SA fender fit?

Um...

11/30, my car was parked and hit.

Technically, if I didn't drive it, it wouldn't have been there, and blah blah blah......but yeah.

Well, anyone have tender blue parts they want to sell?

A SA fender will fit, but it is a different shape than the FB fender, so it'll look weird and not match up to the lower valence.

NOO!! NOOOO!! NOOOO!! THINK BEFORE you call the PO-POs.. I had some drunk **** rear end me on my way home one evening. Pulled over to the side and in a minute after seeing his drunk ***, called 0 on the celly and asked for the cops. Call the cops if the other party yells " Don't call the cops man, I'll pay for everything" (yeahh right... driving a early 80's 200SX, you're gonna pay me??)

Turns out he was driving with a suspended license, DUI and was giving the cops fake information. I needed the police report for my insurance under my UIM claim.
