Accelerator Pump Question

I just bought an 83 RX-7 still with the 12A and Nikki carb. It has a leak which I was told and believe is from the accelerator pump? It's drips not a spray from the driver side of the carb, I can get a photo to show for certain.

How hard is the replacement of this? I have no real experience tinkering with a car carb like this, have messed with karts but not this large. lol

Can I do it without removing the whole carb and disassembling or is it a serious task?

Thanks!

if your sure its the accel pump then you can fix it with the carb on the carb, but i am sure that if the accel pump went then most likely a rebuild is needed for the whole carb. easy to replace, take of the 2 screws if i am not mistaken and just replace the diaphragm. read up on how to rebuild a carb just in case and for experience. good luck report back if you have any problems

Cool thanks! With the car I got loads of spares including two what look like rebuild kits, so maybe I'll do that sometime, I also have a spare carb so maybe I'll use that to learn more. lol

By the way is it common to see a leak from the accelerator pump? Or is there something else around that area that more commonly leaks?

It's very common for it to leak there. The gasket degrades over time.

Cool thanks. I plan on rebuilding the carb at some point, the car did have an issue running rough at high RPM, he told me he didn't ever have the car off but has had it apart so I'm not sure what he did and did not replace. I know he replaced things outside the carb but I'll rebuild it soon just to know it's rebuilt. I drove it home and it ran fine but I never really got on it.

One other quick question, it looks like it has four screws, the bottom right one is blocked by part of the throttle linkage or something, is there a way to get that out of the way?

Found this photo online it's the same as the instructions in my rebuild kit:

Another pic, the lever is in the way of the screw behind it, do I remove the pin? If so how I haven't seen one like this before.

Sorry for the noob questions.

Doh! Got it, just a clip at the end of the pin. I'm glad I have this spare carb to toy with, I imagine it will be harder on the car though. lol

OK new gasket is in, started it up and ran it for about two minutes, revved it a few times to 3k or so, no leaking, is that enough time that I'd know if it were still leaking?

It's loud and currently on slicks I didn't want to **** the neighbors off or drive it far. lol

Yea that should be fine. If it was going to leak then it would have when you revved it.

That pic is of a Sterling Nikki, looks like. If so, treasure it; they're not made any more.
