Would filing a claim mean they take the irons?

Not a biggie on the front iron. Be sure to spec that iron for step wear before using.

The flash on the camera makes the wear look alot worse than it really is. I've never filed a claim so I can't help you with that.

Weldable. Iron is iron. take it to someone that knows what they're doing. I had the same little ear thing happen to my brand new rb intale manifold. had the alluminum welded and it's great now.

i've also seen someone weld the backplate cause it had a small hole. engine is still running.

Same here. Engines with broken lifting tabs still run.

Not a problem, but if you really want it fixed... take it to a welding shop.... They weld cracked engine blocks, a tab is nothing!

^^^^bingo. i've seen far worse be welded and turn out just fine. a few years back we were using 364 nailhead motors out of 60's buicks in our drag cars and every now and again you'd see a split in the block and we'd take the block to our local machine shop and they'd take care of the problem by welding the block up nice. if it would make you feel better i'd take it in and get the tab welded on but as stated above its not really necessary.
